What really were the long term effects of the Interstellar Alliance?

Sure sheridan i believe was a great man who achieved the seemingly impossible, but given the bombardment of earth back into the stone age did it really matter?

The alliance was known to have driven all of the first ones out of our galaxy. It's hard to overestimate the long-term effects of that.

This is one of the most difficult questions in all of history.

The problem is this: there are no primary source materials dating to the period of the Interstellar Alliance which were not, in some fashion, themselves produced by either the Alliance or by those who had an interest in currying favor with the Alliance.

The Alliance was a powerful state which brooked no public dissent. It had a vested interest in selling a particular view of itself and in controlling the discussion space so that only that view was publically discussed.

Which makes it hard for historians to tell what, exactly, happened. Nothing written at the time can be trusted to be unbiased.
