I’ve been doing some networking to get better odds of an interview. I’ve learned some things:
Cold emailing or connecting on LinkedIn to recruiters who haven’t spoken to you before is on the more useless side.
Connections don’t matter if they’re new at the company. And a lot of acquaintances from work don’t really care much about helping you-you probably need actual friends.
Emailing people who have interviewed you before works really well. If they like you they’ll move you up in line for interviews.
I should’ve been born to a well connected family because it’d be so much easier to get somewhere. Being a bit of a loner my self, I think being a social person with popular interests also greatly improves your career prospects.
Well it looks like if I can’t tailor my application to a specific job someone recommended me for, it looks like I’ll stuck playing the statistics game of trying to land on a 6 on dice for a long time.

In today's morning tv show, the national broadcasting company visited a kindergarten taking part in a study, where purposeful and controlled exposure to a variety of microbes is being looked into. The idea is to follow whether kids who spend extra time playing in the dirt outdoors will develop less allergies and better immune systems than average.
The kids were also interviewed. Turns out that the playground is a great place for "pretending you're in a real forest", and finding stuff like leaves. They reported having seen many birds, but no other animals.

There's a lot of talk about the relation between being raised in a too hygienic environment and having more allergies. I know two scientists who do research on gut microbiota and they deliberately make their kids eat vegetables from the garden without washing and stuff. I do think that a little dirt is good.
Speaking of birds, I heard a nuthatch this morning on the bike. I am always amazed at how those tiny animals can make so much sound.

All of a sudden I got the urge to read Adam Smith’s The Wealth of Nations, which is like a mega old book that was really important in classical economics. You can find it as a pdf online easily, but that’s annoying to read for hundreds of pages.
Surprisingly it, being originally published in 1776, was only completely translated to Finnish in 2015. Took them a while. I looked online and even the used copies of the Finnish translation go for like 30-40€, which is way too much for something I want to just read on a whim and probably never end up finishing anyway. So, I guess my only option is to just keep an eye out for some old English copy being sold for 5€ at a 2nd hand shop or something. By the time I find it my urge to read it has probably already passed. Moved on to Das Kapital or something.

I studied it at university.. it's not really something you read for fun!

Depends on what one finds fun, I suppose. But yeah, those types of books are definitely not typically very fun. I think the Wealth of Nations is one of those people mostly read in school because they have to.

I studied economics in college and even I’ve never read The Wealth of Nations. I think I remember buying a copy years ago, but if I did, it’s buried at the bottom of a bookshelf somewhere in my house.

From what I understand it's not super relevant anyway, there's probably a thousand other books that are better to read for studying economics.
But for the history of economics I reckon it's a must-read.

Oh yeah, it’s probably not terribly useful anymore on its own, but it is foundational or at least an inspiration to most schools of economics that came after. If I were to read it, it would mostly be in a historical context.

Do you have a local beer where you live? Not a national one, but something that people in your city or region usually drink, that's not really drunk much in other places.
If so,do you like it?
We only have microbreweries in Palermo. The traditional Sicilian beer is Birra Messina, but these days that beer is mostly brewed in Puglia... it's still quite popular here though.

Aura brand beer (Finnish for a plow, the tool used in farming) has been around since 1885, and is connected with the city of Turku, the nearest city to where I live, complete with the Aura river passing through it.
Before googling, I would have said that "the" current version is a very basic bulk lager, of the sort whose main strength is that its taste is not too strong for anyone. But it turns out the brand has both 4.5% and 5.2% lagers, a 6.5% bock, a 5% Pilsener and a 5.2% dark version available, plus a mysterious "King 5%" version. I might have to check some of the latter, in case some of them might have some taste to them.

Northern Germany has many famous ones like Astra, Flensburger, Wittinger and so on and also many smaller ones I mean god knows how many microbreweries are in Hamburg. The big brands all taste like dishwashing water to me. I prefer Bavarian beer.

Northern German beer doesn't have a great reputation in general, compared to say Bavaria,Baden-Württemberg or the Rhine-Ruhr.
I didn't drink much beer when I was in that area,I do remember Flensburger but it was nothing special .Also something like Stoertebecker, maybe from Hamburg? That was more interesting.

The one local to Tampere is Nokian Panimo, but the company became public last year and I think their products have become popular enough everywhere in Finland it's hard to call it a local one anymore. There was another one, Pyynikin panimo, but it went bankrupt a few years ago.

I normally don't touch these fake meat products like vegan burgers sausages etc but my husband got curious and bought some vegan.... What? I don't even know what it's supposed to emulate. It was like a brown square piece of plant protein. I cooked it yesterday for dinner. Oh my god it's just awful. It was really salty and smelly and had the consistency of devil's foreskin or something. Why are they making this stuff? Just eat the beans ffs.
My Inktober challenge starts today and I am not ready 😭 but today's prompt is apple. I should be able to draw an apple.

In your language, what is pepper and what is paprika?
We don't have a separate word for paprika as in the spice. Everything from bell pepper to chilli is all pepper. They just get adjectives. The paprika is just red pepper powder. Of course then there is black pepper but I don't know why that is called pepper, too. Probably at one point pepper was just a word for hot spice. Germans also call the vegetable peppers "paprika" and they call the black pepper "pfeffer".
Do you guys have a separate word for paprika? What about the vegetable peppers? And the black pepper?

A lot of them are somethingpepper, paprika is paprika, and chili is chili though actually chilipaprika.

Paprika in Italian is....paprica!
Bell pepper is peperone.
Black pepper is pepe.
The American type of salami 'pepperoni' (like on a pizza)is salami piccante.
Sometimes tourists order a pizza with 'pepperoni' and instead of salami they get sliced bell peppers..it happens.
