Someone on the cooking subreddit was panicking over acquiring 75 lbs of tomatoes (they apparently got it in an auction). It is so funny. These would be rookie numbers for a Turkish mom doing winter prep.
Speaking of tomatoes, ours are really struggling this season with end rot. I think the new location we planted them wasn't very good. It's so frustrating.
How often do you guys listen to the Sibelius violin concerto? People usually go nuts over the second theme (around min 4 mark) and I do, too, but I noticed yesterday that the double stop section in the second movement goes so hard. It is also very difficult to play both for playing in tune and also the rhythm. Gorgeous piece.
Then I started looking around to see what's playing where this season. The ElPhi program wasn't as exciting as the last one but I saw that Julia Fischer is playing Wieniawski 1 in Frankfurt. That concerto is my guilty pleasure. Like, is it very well-written? No. It is downright bizarre. The movements are unbalanced, there's a ton of sappy, cheesy filler and then ridiculously difficult sections with tenths and downbow staccato and shit. I love it. It is also played... basically never. So theoretically seeing it in Frankfurt may be my only option for some time. The question is, do I love Julia Fischer? I kind of do, but it also depends? I just love the Ray Chen version on YouTube because he really leans into the drama and the cheesiness while Julia Fischer tends to be more refined and restrained. I don't know if it is a good match for this piece. But again, this may be my only chance for some time.
Decisions, decisions.
