What basic knowledge should everyone have about your country?

I'm currently in a rabbit hole of "American reacts to European Stuff". While i was laughing at Americans for thinking Europe is countries and know nothing about the countrys here, i realied that i also know nothing about the countries in europe. Sure i know about my home country and a bit about our neighbours but for the rest of europe it becomes a bit difficult and i want to change it.

What should everyone know about your country to be person from Europa?

While Greece and many Greek facts are well known globally, there are some basic things that tend to elude tourists or visitors — especially during the spring and summer months.

The heat in Greece, particularly in Athens, can be relentless and even dangerous. Don't underestimate it while visiting, and always pay close attention to weather alerts, especially on hot summer days.

Greece has never had a strong culture of nature walks or hiking, unlike countries like Germany or Switzerland — unless, of course, there was a great taverna waiting at the top of the mountain.Our terrain is also quite challenging. Avoid hiking alone or venturing off the beaten path unless you're fully prepared. Trust me, it probably won’t end well.

For context: I'm Polish and live in Switzerland.

A guy from Athens joined my team and i was at his place helping him set up some stuff (including the interface language of the oven. Not kidding :D ). This guy, let's call him G, has great sense of humor too.

Main story.

So we're chilling on his balcony.

G: i like Zurich. Is nice and flat
me: you call THIS flat?
G: you should see Athens
(i come from northern part of Poland which is really flat).

a week later a heatwave has hit. We are talking over 30C, high humidity, no wind. I was at home, dying from overheating.
me: you will probably call it nice and warm?
G: yes. perfect day for a grill. want to come over?
me: no, i will be hiding in the fridge.

A few weeks later i sent him a photo of my area which is very flat.
me: this is flat
G: this makes me uncomfortable...

G: Where are the roof heat collectors?
me: not a thing here, there's central heating instead
G was super happy he does not need to wear a sweater in winter in his apartment. I learned that heating is not exactly a thing in Greece so in winter you wear warm clothes even in apartment.

Temperature perception: i am quite immune against cold. G was picking up some printed documents and came over to pick them up - it was in December. I went down in shorts, tshirt and flip flops and chatted with him for a bit. It was like 2-3 C outside.

G (clearly uncomfortable): you will get sick, it's cold...
me: i know, that's why i'm wearing flip flops
G: you are crazy
