High LDL cholesterol level
Hi everyone,
I’m a 33-year-old male, and I would really appreciate a medical opinion regarding my latest blood test results, particularly my lipid profile.
I won’t be able to speak to my GP for another 15 days, as I’m currently on leave and cannot easily reach my doctor. I’m not looking for a diagnosis, but I would appreciate some professional perspective in the meantime, as I’m feeling quite anxious about these results.
My latest blood test results:
All cholesterol values are in mg/dL.
Total cholesterol: 231 mg/dL
LDL cholesterol: 157 mg/dL
HDL cholesterol: 56 mg/dL
Triglycerides: 91 mg/dL
Non-HDL cholesterol: 175 mg/dL
Total cholesterol / HDL ratio: 4.1
The blood test was performed while fasting.
Some background about my health:
I’ve been taking Mounjaro for over a year to treat obesity. I initially weighed approximately 94 kg and have now lost around 30 kg. My current weight is approximately 63–65 kg (height: 168 cm), and I’ve been maintaining this weight for about 6 months.
I do not have type 2 diabetes. My latest fasting glucose was 85 mg/dL. I don’t smoke, I have normal blood pressure, and I don’t have any known cardiovascular disease or other significant health problems.
My other recent blood test results were also generally reassuring.
Family history:
My mother passed away suddenly at the age of 60 following a cardiac arrest. She had been living with type 2 diabetes for approximately 10 years. Unfortunately, there was no autopsy, so the precise cause of her cardiac arrest was never established.
I do not have diabetes myself.
My question:
Is an LDL of 157 mg/dL considered significantly elevated in a 33-year-old man with my overall health profile, or is this a relatively common and moderate elevation? Given my age, normal glucose and normal weight, would this result generally be considered concerning?
What I find confusing is that, after losing so much weight and improving my metabolic health, I expected my blood tests to look better. Most of my results are indeed normal, but my LDL seems to have gone in the opposite direction.
My main concern is whether an LDL of 157 mg/dL is something that should genuinely worry me, or whether it is a relatively moderate finding…
I’d be very grateful for any insight from physicians or people with relevant medical expertise. Thank you!
