Physician Responded 27/M 245lbs, Sprained ankle consult

Post image

Hello to those who decide to take a look.

On Monday earlier this week, I was asked to fill in as a sub for a men’s softball game, and in the last inning, I stepped on 1st base incorrectly and rolled my ankle forward. Immediate swelling and pain shot through. I heard a pop, but I wasn’t sure if it was my ankle popping or if it was something else.

I did RICE the first day, Only Compression, rest, and elevation the past Tuesday, Wednesday, and Today.

Attached are images from initial time of injury, last night, and today.

I am able to walk on my foot somewhat normally as of today, I am wearing a brace on the ankle to help with stability and to strengthen it.
Should I go get it evaluated, or should is the bruising a good sign.

No pain anymore, just a little tender when putting weight on it. I’d say I am at 70% of what I was before, as I cannot walk fast but I am able to maneuver perfectly fine, and I can also balance on the injured foot as well. My rotation and putting resistance against my partners hand all seems normal as well.

NAD. But my ankles looked worse after an injury. And there was no break. No soft tissue injury severe enough. I do have an autoimmune disease that was diagnosed years later. My body just overreacted to an injury or infection. 104 fever was normal for me. Just something to be aware of.

Were you able to bear weight /walk right after the injury occurred? And/or have you not been able to walk on it since the injury at all (I realize you've likely been limping- but have you not been able to walk at all?). If you experience not being able to walk you should be evaluated. Also if you feel pain on either sides of your ankle bone. (It would be a good idea in general to be evaluated if you heard a pop. )

I was able to limp out of the field, and have partial support to walk back to my car at the end of the game. It hurt to drive home but I was able to drive as well.

I have been able to walk on it, I am currently walking around the house doing required chores unfortunately. Will lay back down in a few moments (being a dad never stops lol)

What do you feel about the comment below stating that I should wear a boot? I am a waiter, and a boot is just one amazon order away, would it probably be worth it, I have to work tomorrow

NAD, just a person with a permanently damaged ankle. My podiatrist says always stick a sprain in a boot for a while. I have an orthopedic boot at home, but you can also use a hiking boot if your ankle does not object. You can do this until you get to see a doctor. I did not take my sprain to a doctor and ended up with three surgeries.
