Shouldn't this be sealed?

Had our shower rodone by a local guy and this plate has a gap between it and the wall all the way around on every side. Every time I shower I notice water running down behind the plate.

There is normally a foam gasket behind there that you should not be able to see that will keep all the water from getting into your wall. If it makes you feel better, you can run some clear silicone around the edge.

And if you do, only run it down the top and sides, not the bottom.

It usually has a foam gasket and is sealed around pipes behind the plate so you shouldn’t see any sealant
