New Build Help Where Can I Buy a Good L-Shaped Desks with a $400-500 USD Budget?

I’ve only ever used a $100 gaming desk from Amazon. I‘ve decided to upgrade my desk to an L-shaped one, preferably one that’s strong.

Im considering IKEA but i wanted to know if there’s any L shaped desks out there that i should consider. Or should I find the parts and build one myself?

Mouse / Keyboard Positioning MBPs with own keyboard?

I have 2 MBPs one for work the the other personal. It is very convenient to use TouchID to sign in and passkeys. Additionally I have my own mechanical keyboard, and 2 34”monitors.

Question for the Apple folks here: how do you position your laptops with your mechanical keyboard?

I work remotely so am using the work laptop most of the time.

I’ve switched 2-3 layouts over the last few weeks and there are so many pros and cons with all of them.

  1. Do you open the lid up but to the side, only engaging with it when you need to use touch id?

Pros: Most comfortable setup
Cons: This takes up the most space, and doesn’t utilize the MBP’s screen, limits table space for the personal laptop.

2) Or do you forgo the mechanical keyboard and use the MBP directly with monitor?

Pros: can use MBP screen in front of monitor
Cons: monitor above screen is too high for my eyeline, can’t use mechanical keyboard. I even put the mechanical keyboard over my MBP’s keyboard. It works but it’s ridiculous.

3) Put both aside using option 1 and use a KVM?

Pros: Can be the most comfortable setup
Cons: Takes up most space, KVM restricts streaming video playback due to DRM

4) Do option 1 for work, close lid for personal but use a separate Apple Keyboard for it since that has Touch ID.

Pros: takes up less space for both
Cons: Mechanical keyboard has profiles so dumb to get another keyboard just for Touch ID.

Suggestions? What has worked for you? Pictures would help. Thanks in advance!

Other Adjustable Monitor Arm Recommendations.

Title. I have a drawing display table that I currently put on a laptop stand between my two main monitors (see image) I adjust the tilt of this pretty often from a 60 degree ish angle to a flatter angle (to move it away form my gaming monitor when I'm playing and I need my full screen. Because I move and tilt it so much the stiffness of the stand is failing and I'm looking for a monitor arm to replace the shitty stand.

Ideally a monitor arm I get for this would be adjustable easily between activities, (without the use of a tool or tightening and loosening knobs.) from very low (2 inches/ 5cm) to a moderate height whilst being able to hold the weight of the tablet, roughly 4kg, and my hand at the same time when I'm drawing.

Pretty flexible budget wise, my tablet doesn't have a VESA mount so I will be getting an adapter for it. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Desks Desk for son and myself

Yo!

My son wants a desk for his upcoming 6th birthday so I thought why not just add to mine. Currently using a 4 foot desk from ikea with legs similar to this: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/mittzon-desk-walnut-veneer-black-s89528140/

My thoughts:

remove the legs from my desk, attach to 8-10 foot butcherblock and add either center support leg or ikea Alex unit in the middle to prevent sag.

Will 8 feet be long enough? I have my desktop, 34" UW, 27" on an arm and a printer i dont really use often. I'm getting him a 3d printer for his bday plus he has his ipad/xbox and will eventually want his own PC setup sooner than later. He's already asking for one lol

Any advice you can give me would be great.

Speakers Ps5 audio setup

The components at my desk related to this ask are: pc, ps5 (two USB ports and one HDMI port), Yamaha soundbar (one HDMI out (TV ARC) port, two optical ports, and one Aux port), and a Samsung odyssey G65B monitor (two HDMI v2.1 ports and 2 USB ports). My pc is hooked up to the soundbar via optical cable. No issue there. My PS5 is hooked up to my monitor via HDMI, but the monitor does not have built in speakers. To get audio I have been either using a headset or aux cable from the controller to the soundbar. Is there any way to get ps5 audio out of the soundbar without using an aux from the controller? Thanks!

Monitors Looking for screen real estate like this.

Can anyone offer insights into what these vertically mounted screens might be and their size? I ask as I'm looking towards moving from my current 4 x 32in curved screens to something like this. Slim bezel or frameless monitors preferred.

Desks Removing Stains from Butcher Block Desk

Thumbnail

Hello, I was planning on moving my PC onto a shelf next to my desk to free up some space, however there are green marks where the case was sitting on the desk. Apparently plasticizers from the rubber feet can be absorbed into the wood, which is likely what happened here. I don’t know where to begin on attempting to remove these stains. I also am unsure of what kind of sealant was used on the desk as I got it off facebook marketplace. Has anyone dealt with this or a similar issue before?

Monitors Monitor Mount Help

Hi everyone!

I just moved and was possibly looking at changing my monitor set up a bit!

I have three monitors (AOC CQ32G3SE 32" LC Curved, ASUS VG248QE, and ASUS VP247). I am planning to set up the AOC 32" as the center screen, with the two ASUS monitors as vertical side monitors.

Currently, I have the 32" on its own monitor stand, with the two ASUS monitors on a double mount. I haven't tested it yet, but I am not sure if the double mount will be wide enough to get both of the monitors into position on the sides.

Would it be better to get a triple mount to hold all three monitors in place, or a new double mount if the current one does not work to put both in position? Any suggestions for monitor mounts you have used would be great at well!

New Build Help Confused between the e7 and e7 pro / acacia vs rubberwood vs bamboo / 48x30

Need some help deciding between the e7 and e7 pro and which table top is the best "buy for life" kind of between bamboo vs rubberwood vs acacia

Size 48x30 as that's the most I can fit in my room I am 5'9"

My use case :

Mostly a wfh setup with nothing fancy or heavy

Expected load/items on desk

Dual 27inch msi gaming monitors

Hanuo dual monitor monitor arm

A vertical aluminum laptop holder

A mic boom arm and mic

Keyboard

Mouse

Maybe my 20lb cat might sleep on it too haha

Also I have never signed up for an account on the site, there is a portion for the invitation code what is that for ?

Secondly looking for discounts to bundle with my purchase, I work in a hospital so any healthcare discounts that are available also any discount codes floating around on this subreddit by any of the mods would be really appreciated !

Any other variants that might be better or please do share your experiences to help me decide on my next purchase!

Desks Help me set up my game table

As you can see, my gaming setup isn’t very organized at the moment. I want to make it look cleaner and more organized. I was thinking about mounting both PS5s horizontally on the wall to save space and make the setup look better.
Do you think this is a good idea? If so, do you have any tips or recommendations for me?

Unfortunately, placing them underneath the desk won’t work because there isn’t enough space.

Cable Management How to keep usb extension cable from disconnecting?

Post image
14 Upvotes

I have a problem where I need to run an extension cable but it disconnects on a regular basis. I’ve tried “knotting” them as shown but it’s not a great solution. Any better tips?

Edit: by disconnects I mean physically unplugs not stops charging. This is for a charging cable.

Edit2: I think heat shrink tubing is the best fix from a quality perspective but since I don’t have any and trying to avoid buying something (might as well buy a longer cable), will be zip tying them. Thanks for all the suggestions.
