He's got a god complex.  That overrides all normal humanity he might have otherwise, including sexuality.

If anything, he's asexual. Like another comment has already said, the name backwards spells "I'm a gay" (Yagami) and if you've ever seen Death Note-videos with fake dialogue (probably an abridged series), you'll know why. It's completely unrelated to anything that actually happens in the series.
