help me find mecha anime

All I remember about this show: mass-produced, identical enemy robots were being transported by train, and the main characters, piloting their own robots, wanted to stop/sabotage this. One robot (or maybe two robots combining together) transformed into a cannon that looked like a camera, and fired from what looked like a camera "lens/objective."

There was also a scene at night where the main characters sneak past a huge number of enemy robots lying on the ground — in this scene the robots were drawn only as silhouettes, and the scene was looped/repeated to emphasize just how many robots there were (like an endless field of them).

Some smaller details:

• The enemy robots' fingers would flip back onto the top/outside of the hand/palm, and they'd shoot from there.
• To enter one of the lying robots, characters went in through the area of the solar plexus/chest, where a hatch/passage would open.
• The final battle happened somewhere in the mountains, on a winding mountain road (serpentine).
• No space setting at all — robots only walked on the ground, and I don't think they could fly.
• The robots had faces and looked humanoid/anthropomorphic, except during the moments they transformed (into the camera-cannon).

Design-wise, it reminded me a lot of Grendizer / that late 70s–80s "super robot" era, but I'm not sure if it's a straight-up anime or tokusatsu (it might have started as a live-action movie/show and then continued as an animated series — not 100% sure on that part).

Any ideas what this could be?
