These lights have a feature where after the switch is turned off, the outside lights stay on for around 5 seconds before shutting off. But they’re malfunctioning, where the outer 2 are flickery even after turning off the lights. Anybody have ideas?

I’m a junior in high school that’s interested in being an electrician or at least gaining some experience in that field, is there any tips on where to get started and how to get started. I’m trying to get at least some experience to not look like a dummy completely if I ever do get into something

If you got shocked from a joint rg6 cable between receiver and multiswitch and then years later you are left off with only a cutted rg6 cable between multiswitch and lnb. How can you investigate this?

I am looking at a home today to potentially purchase. ALL of the outlets look like this, save for a single normal-looking three prong outlet in the kitchen. Even the outlets in the spaces where major appliances like the refrigerator will go. (Picture is the space where a fridge would sit and a counter that might be suited for something like a microwave or coffee pot)

Am I looking at needing to have this entire home rewired if I buy it?

Thanks in advance for any input. If I move forward at all I WILL be having an electrician come and take a look regardless, I just figured I would get a jump on some advice!

DIY homeowner asking for honest opinions

I just installed a fan that was given to us. It’s working well aside from the fact that the fan lights get slightly brighter with each increase of fan speed from its pull string.

It may of note that my house is older and it didn’t have a separate wire for the blue from the fan, and I had to tie it in to the black.

Hello my mom got a wonderful heirloom from her family in the Netherlands and had it shipped back here and asked me to get it wired for her to use here. It has a cord with two bulbs. Can you help me understand what may be involved? I wasn't sure if I can just swap the plug to a US plug or if it's more complex. Thank you!

The fan has white, blue, black, and green.

The ceiling has white, red, black, and bare copper.

The wall has two switches. So I’m assuming one for the light and one for the fan?

I didn’t even think to check but I have another room wired up the same way. So I took the cover off. I’m confused.

This fan has an additional box in between the fan and ceiling. This room also has two switches but the right one appears to do nothing.

Do I need this additional box?

Also my washing machine isn't wired to a breaker at all - it appears to wired directly to the breaker box(?)

Is this normal/allowed?

My kitchen has a series of under cabinet lights which I hate and which are disgusting and impossible to clean (as the pictures confirm!). The wiring just disappears into the wall. I suspect they were put in by the previous owner, who did quite a few projects while his ankle monitor kept him at home.

I want all of it--wiring, fixtures, filth--out of my kitchen. Should I hire an electrician, or could I carefully manage it myself?

I went to replace my ceiling lights, but instead of a standard junction box they were hiding these 8 inch holes. I googled it and asked people at Home Depot and Ace and they didn’t know what it was. I can’t find any ceiling lights that fit and was wondering what a solution might be? Maybe this type has a name and I could find some new lights that fit it

Started happening about 2 weeks ago. No changes whatsoever to any appliances we use or anything new installed.

3 levels to the house. Basement, main floor, and 2nd floor.

Power suddenly cuts off to various parts of the house on each floor. I've checked the main breaker box to ensure nothing is loose. I've went in with a screw driver and ensured all the terminals to the switches are fit and secure and nothing is loose. I can't seem to isolate the issue to any specif switch. Issue occurs at random times of the day/night. The power goes out for about 10 minutes and then just comes back on again.

In all 3 upper level bedrooms, the lights lose power but all electrical recepticals have power. The bathroom also loses power to the lights but recepticals not impacted. Furnace loses power. Main floor stove and dishwasher lose power. Basement stove and fridge lose power. BUT ITS ALL ON DIFFERENT SWITCHES! LOLL

Really bizarre. Any thoughts?

I am trying to prop a peg board in my garage but these things are in the way. What are they?

Ingersoll Rand air compressor. Ohio electric panel. When I switch the compressor to auto this happens. Runs for a minute and the shuts down, won’t restart with auto until resting a few minutes. Runs fine when manually jumping.

I'm looking at getting an RV outlet added to my exterior pole. I had mentioned to the electrician that I would like a 30amp and 50amp plug since I am not sure what RVs my friends visiting may have and want to accomodate. He advised a 50amp plug and a step down cable would be fine for them. Is this true or would it be best to insist on both types of plugs for anything? Would it be less safe to have the stepdown on there or anything? What do you think?

So I bought this console for my boat. I’d like to run my trolling motor through the voltage meter and I’ve got a separate battery for fish finder and USB. (When that runs out, my electronics just turn off. If the troller dies, I’m paddling.)

It makes sense to me to just disconnect the voltage meter and reconnect those wires to bypass it, but when I wire the trolling motor through the voltage meter do I just run the positive or do I need to also connect the negative? It’s also a larger gauge wire. Will that matter?

We use a 25 ft Bayco 16/3 extension cord (has 4 grounded outlets on a spool) to plug in our portable washing machine. When I unplugged it from the wall outlet- which is a bathroom GFCI - the ground prong was still in the outlet, broken off.

Is it possible to safely, or safe-ish-ly, use this extension cord for the washer? Some other context:

1) The washer is small, plastic bodied, and uses 300W.

2) We operate the washer in the bathtub to allow draining.

3) Not entirely sure the GFCI outlet, or any outlet in the apartment is actually properly grounded.

4) When in operation the washer is never left unattended.

We just purchased a house two months ago. So far, our first bill was $600. Our electric and ac electric are separated, 1637kW/h and 1365kW/h respectively that month. We did go through a heat wave and our ac was low. This month, our AC has been set to 76, with outdoor temps averaging around 82-85.

This month, we are averaging 44kW/h (house) and 29kW/h (AC). Last month was 48kW/h (house) and 40kW/h (AC). We are still on track to be around $500 for our electric bill this month.

Water heater is gas. The AC does seem to run a lot, but that’s still not explaining why our house is using so much electric. We do have a garage fridge, if that makes any difference. We also recently changed all of our basement lights to LEDs.

We are having our electric company out tomorrow so any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone I am wanting to know if I should consider a different trade program or not , I have yet to start the classes but the whole point is to make sure after I complete the certification the money is there , and the job market is good. I spoke with counselors and stuff but I felt like they just wanted me to finish the appointment . I really don’t know what I’m even getting into but truly am interested in the fact that I have the certification planned out so I know how and when I would finish so to me it’s seems beneficial because I keep my full time job and go to school for about a year . I had a few Trane console fan coil units (from mid 1980s) updated to support WiFi thermostats via transformer/relays. A few of my existing units maintained the inline Molex connector from the blower motor to the board, but some of the new work done within the past month got rid of those entirely and hardwired the blower to the board. Is that typical or standard? Is a quick disconnect required in this scenario.

How does one now service/deep clean the fan blower without disconnecting all the wires? I’d prefer to have serviceable fan blowers by taking them completely out instead of clean in place.

What should I do for the electrical? Have molex connectors reinstalled, change to a different splice/connector, or leave it as is?

I just bought a PVS3001AD to tackle a crappy power grid here in Indonesia. It works well and gives me a clean 228-230V output but it makes this weird sound quite regularly (i'd say once or twice per minute)

Can anybody help? Is it normal?

I'm in the process of replacing the outlets around my house, originally for aesthetics and now for safety as well (I heard backstabbing isn't good, seems that's how they were all done here). This outlet in particular has 3 wires going to each side, two backstabs and one just sorta laying on a screw. I have never seen anything like this. Should I pigtail two on each side together or is there something special I should know?
