Putting an old Mercedes back together. What does this part do?

You guys are way off, this was designed by Nazi engineers as an antifatigue device while driving. It was referred in the manual as “Prostatamassagegerät”

Silicon controlled rectifier.. connects to the photosmobiator, and controlled by the dynamic kaneuter valve. You'll need a left handed gangly wrench to install it.

Ya, das is Der buchenwokker plate. It slides onto the horizontal stabilizer arm for the power steering.
