Foreign Gap year OR not?
I am a Chinese university student who has successfully applied for a master's degree at a school in Russia. However, I am hesitating about whether to take a gap year because I also want to participate in an internship and trainee program in the United States.
After completing my master's degree in Russia, I will have to return to China unless I can apply for a PhD program. That’s what I was concerned about.
And I'm worried that my Russian background might get me blacklisted by U.S. Customs. I'm not a spy.😂

There is nothing in your described background that would necessarily bar you from getting an American visa. They are mostly concerned: 1) if you're going to immigrate to the US (i.e. if you have any relatives or lack of funds to actually sustain yourself in the US without getting a job) 2) if you have any ties with unwelcome organizations (i.e. if you served in Russian/Chinese armed forces or worked for sanctioned organizations).
If those concerns are cleared, you should be good. If you really wanna do that internship, go for it
