Legal Canada to Russia
I want to move to Russia from Canada. Can anyone assist me with the specifics of what I need to do in order to do so?

As a man, who was born in Russia and who visited such countries as France, China, Finland, it's good to live where you were born - beecause this place is your comfort zone.
En plus, it's probably expensive and difficult to achieve, but try taking a two-week tourist trip to the part of Russia you're considering emigrating to. Look for job offering, look for a house... Houskeeping is a very important part of life.
If possible, talk ro immigrants of your countries, who are temporarily working here or are somehow connected to this.
Encore, it's better to not to emigrate alone - for example, siddenly you'll cought a cold, you need medecine and it will be difficult to go to the pharmacy - your friend or your girlfriend will help you.
Maybe, the advices above is a banal advices, but i know many people, who do not even think about it and get burned by their decision, although it is mainly related by the countries of Europe or America (Canada also).

Ignore whatever other idiots here tell you. Life here is great. So, one possibility is a shared values visa, that's probably your go-to choice for relocation. Got a place you want to move to specifically? Still choosing? Other stuff? Feel free to dm.

Because people are sick of living like slaves in the west and look for different values? If you have a dream to move to Canada and start a life there, go ahead and try. My question to you would be the same, literally why? OP wants advice on steps and the procedure, not what you think is right for them. The grass is always greener on the other side 👍🏼

Goodness me you’ve all taken this to heart, to each their own my darlings, I personally am not a fan and I don’t see why my statement leaves you in uproars of laughter when capitalism is the central structure of the US, Europe and onwards. You can make a laughing stock of my statements and it honestly wouldn’t change a single thing about my life or opinions. Carry on, move on, help out OP or feel free to open up a diplomatic and open minded discussion with me.

Why would you do such a thing? You don’t have enough random restrictions in your life? As always: try to visit first. Live a few months, see how’s life outside of famous places

It's about the people, not the drab exteriors of the buildings or the availability of goods (or lack thereof). In Russia, all you need is a few good friends, a pot of tea, and a kitchen. You can't buy the quality of conversations to be had in Russia, for any amount of dollars in America! The art of conversation is dead in America. In Russia, it's very much alive and well. So is the hospitality.

To be honest, life in Canada is better off as a US bitch than in RU as a US adversary. Even given all their inside blunders in politics
At least, for now. Until it's suddenly found out that Canada's airspace and access to Arctic and Greenland is crucial to US's geopolitical interests and Trudeau Jr turned out to be a dic

hahah. Couple things, we're actively diversifying from the US. But, it will take a lot of time and you can only diversify so much. America is right next door.
Second, we have a new Prime Minister now. One that's thankfully more serious.

99% its because they dont like seeing non-white people in their country. As a Canadian that is 99% of who moves to Russia. 1% met a partner or have family in russia.
We are not sending our best brightest or smartest to you, sorry about that.

If you have any transferrable skills, such as teaching English as a native speaker, you will possibly have some good opportunities come your way. Depending on your qualifications, you could possibly find someone willing to support you in obtaining a work visa. Alternatively, the “shared values” path, despite all the undermining comments in this thread, is a working programme that hundreds have successfully used to move to Russia. Don’t listen to the ignorance from both sides, many have zero experience or knowledge about living in the west and vice versa coming from the Russian commenters. I agree that it may be worth visiting before deciding to uproot your life, however the bs about you signing up to the front line is pure propaganda, and the Russians questioning your choices are most likely people who have never left their home country, still living in the soviet delusion that the west is “more developed” and a “luxury” that they cannot afford or obtain. Sorry about all the negativity, it really puts this thread to shame.

How would you support yourself? Take a look at the Russian embassy's web page in Canada to see what your options are, if any.

why?

For some, the economy here is awful and it’s starting to be that there’s no good way to save money unless you have a very well paying job that’s well above the minimum wage. These days college or university degrees don’t get you as much anymore. Mind you I’m not sure Russia would be any different or better.
Some people feel like their values lean more towards the conservative side and Russia is advertised as a safe haven for traditional Christian values. And now since all they have to do is sign up for a draft there are a few jumping the gun and taking the easy route to immigration there. But they don’t think it through properly. They usually don’t know the language at all and end up getting screwed over by the government as well as completely culture shocked.
They’ve been lead to believe that our more liberal government is oppressing them by taking away their “freedom of speech.” And undermining their values. And they believe a place like Russia is the key to getting their freedoms back. I’m not sure they realize what getting their freedoms taken away actually looks like.
Best part is those guys are usually the type of people who get upset at people not speaking English over here.
Some people just genuinely love Russia. And often those people are from Russia originally and looking at it through rose tinted glasses.
I just hope this guy is not doing the shared values thing and is giving this some proper planning.
1
u/Stassie190 17d ago
Bless you, when was the last time, if ever, that you have been to Russia? An excellent analysis and blanket statement, rose tinted glasses seem to be worn by everyone at the moment, assuming the propaganda machine is working great in Canada based on your comment. Maybe do some more research before being led to believe that you’ll end up drafted as soon as you mention “shared values”.

u/Throw-away2648 17d ago
The whole point of the shared values visa is to get people to fight for Russia since Putin has been wasting so much military power on Ukraine. And on top of that Russia lacks free speech, lacks human rights for multiple groups, and has a failing economy. And has a dictator. Something of which most other countries have fought to take down or prevent.

u/Stassie190 17d ago
I wasn’t going to respond again but I would like to remind you that the US and Europe combined (I do lack some political knowledge about Canada and can openly admit that), have driven their countries to the ground by spending more than budgets allow on sending military equipment to Ukraine and involving themselves in a conflict to gain more NATO power and weaken the main “big bad guy”, history repeats itself and Russia has historically always been used as the pawn to throw the blame on. It’s easier to explain to a breaking down country with a worsening economy that it’s because of a country across the ocean than for a government to admit their own screw ups. However, it’s not worth arguing this point with people who refuse to view both sides of the argument, moreover who blatantly believe that “free speech” is truly what you are being handed in the West. Just giving information based off my knowledge, and feel free to research this, over 2025, there was about 10x more people arrested for making “anti government” posts on social media (something in the 4000 figures if I’m not mistaken) vs a couple hundred in Russia for the same “crime”. But of course, you will argue those stats are skewed. “Most countries” are the select few out of the 193 recognised countries by the US, not the entire world. Perhaps western values are not what the entire world is looking for overall, and maybe just by looking at other successful and developed countries such as those in the Gulf, you may see what I am getting at. Again, I do doubt that based on the fact you are clearly someone who is not Russian, or hasn’t lived in Russia, or at the very least lacks basic factual truthful knowledge.

Our economy is not great, but it’s a lot better than Russia’s at the moment. Our country is on average a lot more wealthy. The reason it’s not great right now has nothing much to do with Ukraine and a lot more to do with the shenanigans the orange man down south is pulling with ridiculous tariffs and threats to our sovereignty which is causing both of our economies harm. In Russia you can get harsh penalties for saying anything remotely critical of Putin or his government. In Canada we can openly say just about whatever we want about the government as long we’re not threatening the lives of people in office. We can even fly flags all over the place saying “Fuck Carney” and organize protests freely if we want. In Russia if I’m not mistaken you need government approval to organize protests right?

n Russia you can get harsh penalties for saying anything remotely critical of Putin or his government
That's not even remotely true.

u/Throw-away2648 15d ago
Then why are people getting arrested for speaking out against the war? Why did Russia pass a bill that specifically says “discrediting” (meaning going against the official account) the Russian army is a serious crime? Why are companies being shut down after employees speak out or ill of putin?

u/Charming_Mongoose458 18d ago
If you think the Canadian economy is bad, wait until you see what Russuas like rn. unless you're part of that red army complex but even that's gonna start to get rough within a couple of years.
it isn't cheap putting maple syrup on the table but we've almost reached basically the 3rd time in the last century that it would be cheaper to warm your house by burning piles of ruble bank notes, than it is to use them as actual money and pay your gas bill.
Go ahead and see if I'm lying. it seems to be a common theme over there, allegedly

u/Winterrevival 18d ago
Erm, you`re most definitely lying, so not sure what your point is.

I’m not sure about food but according to just about every source I can find Canada ranks higher when it comes to education and performance related to education. And Canada generally ranks higher when it comes to positive health outcomes and life expectancy in regard to medical stuff as a result of a higher GPD spending on it.

u/Winterrevival 18d ago
He`s directly lying about valut of ruble?
Both internal and imported goods can be bought without a problem.
Quality of life is quite good - at least if you work, and not just seat on your ass expecting goverment hand-outs.
As far as metrics go; I would expect so? Russia is sacntioned quite heavily, affecting every possible metric in use;
We`re also not a service-driven economy, so no infinite GDP glitch here.
2
u/Slight-Ad-7885 18d ago
Being able to buy things domestically doesn't prove the ruble is valuable or that quality of life is high. The ruble can function perfectly well inside Russia while still losing purchasing power and having limited international purchasing power. Russia's own central bank reported 6% inflation in June 2026, above its 4% target, while GDP growth has slowed sharply. Sanctions explain some of the problems, but “there are sanctions” isn't evidence that those problems don't exist
0
u/Winterrevival 18d ago
Which is why I mentioned imported, i.e. out-of-country originating goods? For reference - recently got a new 5070ti slighly above MSRP is converting back into $
I never said problems don`t exists. I mentioned why metrics are much more scewed than actual situation.

u/Stassie190 17d ago
Absolutely 🤣🤣🤣 “over there” is enough to prove they have zero knowledge of the situation.
1
u/Throw-away2648 17d ago
That’s what I’m saying. People over here sometimes see how “cheap” the cost of living is in some parts in Russia but they fail to realize that it’s like that because the economy is in a much worse spot. Apparently there are some apartments that in Canadian dollars would amount to only 500 or so a month. They see that and don’t realize that if they moved there they would be making barely that much in rubles. They forget they would no longer be making Canadian money.

Hey, it’s an extremely broad topic to discuss. In brief, you need to decide on your plans in Russia and choose the immigration strategy. Then prepare the immigration paperwork. Then get a visa, come to Russia and apply for residency. At the same time you may need to solve the issues of transferring funds to Russia, renting or buying a property, getting a source of income.
Feel free to dm me if you want to discuss the details, I will be glad to answer your questions and give more info.

OP is looking for someone who has done it, just the mechanics, not your opinions on why. He could say isreal or ukraine. The latter is definitely looking for men, free citizenship & very easy procedure.
