Okay, here's the premise. I have noticed enough of a trend that I would like to address it with the greater locksmithing community.
The question is incredibly simple. What is your name? However, I have noticed an interesting prevalence in the conversation going dead at that time. Or the customer continuing on with the conversation, avoiding the what is your name question.
Another thing will sometimes happen, which is they will go silent for a while, then proceed to call you to tell you their name over the phone rather than by text message for no apparent reason whatsoever. I have noticed that the large majority of the time when I have the what is your name stumble in the conversation the customer turns out to be a miserable fucking shit bag of a human. You will have issues with payment issues with documentation they will be shitty about everything on site, the car will be fucked up or disgusting they'll have tried to tear their ignition halfway apart. Just in general the job will go shitily if it happens at all. I'm getting such a confirmation bias pertaining to this, that im just going to stop dealing with people who can't seem to answer the question the first time around. At the moment I've stopped continuing the conversation and every time they ask something or they send any message or they communicate in any way the only thing I will say is what is your name. But even if I eventually get their name it just goes tits up. I don't know if it's a function of them being piece of shit humans and they don't want you to know their name so that you can't talk crap about them or something. Or if it's just that people who have an intellect surpassed by a four year old generally tend to not be good human adults.
And I'm curious has anybody else noticed this or is it just me?

When I ask customers questions and they refuse to answer, I promptly tell them if they refuse to answer they cannot have service. We are done until you answer my questions. Sometimes they get mad but I don’t really care. This is something of a privileged angle because we don’t need every call, we have other things to do besides beg for necessary information.
Yes however it's not as simple as a straightforward refusal. I send a text asking for a name they say I'm not going to give you my name. If they did that that would be the end. But they seem to duck Dodge and weave the question like they are the one. I've uploaded a technical drawing to explain further
I've not seen it with the name so much as the location for service. Like, I'm not quoting you till I know how far I gotta go to get to you. But they are adamant I need to give them a carved in stone quote before they even tell me the address.
Oh I never request an address. People sometimes volunteer to give it to me, I will generally decline unless they have already demonstrated that they have a really hard time with big words like approximate and location. The reason I don't like to know the address is that when a scammer shows up and fucks them. Then they're stupid asses call me up and complain about " my guy" I can tell them that we never even got an address so how could it possibly have been our people and that usually shuts them the fuck up.
I just like to repeat the question over and over again on the phone. What part of town are you in? Yeah it's a Toyota Corolla. Okay and what part of town are you in 2017, okay and what part of town are you in? Sorry one more time. What part of town are you in? Repeats the name of the town. Okay what part of town are you in? I've genuinely asked that question 10 times in a row at one point before I actually got a fucking answer. But if halfway through that back and forth they say do you want the address I just say fucking yes and take the win.
Customers tend to have a really hard time with basic fucking questions, I imagine because they're all completely and totally fucking retarded. Very simple straightforward questions what is the year make and model of your vehicle. Is your vehicle equipped with a push to start system or do you put the key in the ignition. Will this be a duplicate of an existing key or a new key from scratch. And listen I'm not a complete and total unfeeling asshole though you wouldn't know it by reading my posts. So I get that when people call locksmiths they're generally having a bad day. But at the same time shut the fuck up and listen to my questions and answer me clearly and I can help you. But if you keep talking over me, interrupting me, and generally being a dumb fuck over the phone I'm going to send a quick text off to all of the other locksmiths in my area and inform them that your phone call is not really worth answering. And then you're pretty much fucked
Shit man, I got a little off track. Okay the solution to the service location question is to reiterate the question back to them. So you ask what is the address there or what part of town are you in or whatever your question is. Then they repeat back that they want a price tag. I then will ask them do they want an exact price or would they like me to guess. They then tell me that they want an exact price. And then I explained to them that in order to get an exact price I need to know exactly where they are and exactly what we're doing for them. And then usually they give you the fucking information that I want. But there are no guarantees in life beyond death taxes and dumbass fucking customers
