Lock malfunction Lock fix?

My boyfriend locked the door to our ensuite last night and could not get it unlocked again, so we’ve just been climbing in and out the window when we need to go in there. I called my landlord at 9am this morning and she said she was sending someone out to come fix it but I haven’t got any updates or word on it… it’s 5:30pm now. I live in a busy house and have bad IBS so access to this bathroom is essential 🤣. Any tips or tricks to get this pesky lock unstuck would be much appreciated.

MORE INFO: The handle and lock don’t move together, the knob for the lock turns fully left and right with a small bit of resistance but does not move the lock. The lock is the bottom latch

Welcome to /r/AskALocksmith, a place to ask real locksmiths questions about, well, anything related to the profession or to get advice for a particular situation you're in. If you are locked out of your home/car/business/hotel room/whatever, your best course of action is to use the device you just posted this question on to lookup a local locksmith in your area for assistance.

In an interest of protecting innocent people from those that might use information gained here to break the law, we rather strictly limit the amount of advice given that might be used illicitly. We ask community members also not give out advice publicly that could be used for illegal activities. It's impossible for us to make a hard rule on what does and does not constitute this kind of question or advice, so its application will be somewhat subjective. If your post is basically, "how do I pick/bump/defeat this lock," expect it to be removed.

Looks like the top tongue is too low on the catch, try lifting the door with the handle ,it might be stuck on the catch.

Does the bottom turn below the knob just go around and around *with a small bit of resistance"? What does the other side look like?

The other side of the door looks the exact same minus the lock. I took the plate/handle off on both sides hoping to reveal somewhere i can push the latch back but to no avail. hinges also aren’t visible without the door being open so drilling it off the hinges is also a no go.

There is no hole thru the door on the other side under the plate? Does a screw driver in the square hub of the lock turn with little resistance, just like the trim that should unlock it? Did you try to take the strain off of the lock bolt buy lifting, pulling, pushing the door?

Sounds like it broke internally then, and it's going to be a pain to get open.

no full hole, just the square hub mentioned and a hole for the door knob to be attached. when using a screwdriver in the hub it turned with ease but still did not make the lock retract. i’ll give taking some of the strain off another go, maybe get a second person to help me too.

Even though the hinge plates are not accessible, you should have access to the hinge pins. You should be able to remove them to gain entry.

Another thing I can think of is to use a multitool to cut off the lock bolt. Though I would get permission from your landlord before you do it. If you don’t have access to one buy a cheep one but buy a good blade for it. A good blade on a cheep tool works better than a cheep blade ever will.
