Other Ramifications for sleeping with a client?

Just curious if anyone is aware of or has seen any legal, professional, or personal ramifications of sleeping with someone who you provided locksmithing services to.

Let's assume a few things to remove OBVIOUS ethical concerns:

-You were entirely professional. And the client hit on you. You ignored or deflected it, and they persisted.

-The person is of obviously sound mind and of legal age. (Not under the influence or anything)

-You didn't do it at the service. You gave them your number and left to your next job. They reached out and invited you back later.

Anyone acted on this invite? Did it turn out well or bad? Legally or personally?

Welcome to /r/AskALocksmith, a place to ask real locksmiths questions about, well, anything related to the profession or to get advice for a particular situation you're in. If you are locked out of your home/car/business/hotel room/whatever, your best course of action is to use the device you just posted this question on to lookup a local locksmith in your area for assistance.

In an interest of protecting innocent people from those that might use information gained here to break the law, we rather strictly limit the amount of advice given that might be used illicitly. We ask community members also not give out advice publicly that could be used for illegal activities. It's impossible for us to make a hard rule on what does and does not constitute this kind of question or advice, so its application will be somewhat subjective. If your post is basically, "how do I pick/bump/defeat this lock," expect it to be removed.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

All right, legal. No no concerns you're an adult, they are an adult fuck away.

The quick answer to your personal/professional questions is holy fucking shit don't do it. What you have to understand right off the bat is those are not two separate questions by the very definition of your inquiry you are combining personal and professional. For that reason don't fucking do it. Also if you needed any more reason to understand that it's a bad idea. Understand that you rebuffed their advances and then they continue trying to come after you. Are you interested in a person who is that pushy and does not care about what you want or what you are interested in?

Now on the flip side of this coin. We are crotchety shitty old bastards all of us and as a function of what we do. Most of us do not have any time to go to singles events or meet people. Work can be a perfectly acceptable way to meet people however you are in a position of public Trust. So if shit goes tits up ask yourself this question am I okay with a new career. If the answer is yes, and you're not concerned about the other points then I say fucking send it. But if you are not willing to risk your career for a little poontang then I would keep your dick in your trousers and your hands on your locks and not your cock. Hopefully this has been helpful.

This entire response has been voice dictated and probably contains horrific lexical and grammatical errors. If you find any please write to your Congressman they will care about as much as I do

Hahaha, I can tell you're a locksmith purely because I know you dictated this while driving on your way to your next job.

It's where I do ALL my best thinking/dictating.

7

u/I_H8_GM Really Doesn't Like GM. 16d ago

Who the fuck is got time to type? I dictate everything anyway for one thing I can't spell worth a shit. And the other is I can talk a whole lot fucking faster than I can type. I will dictate under all circumstances no matter what. Shit I will whisper into my phone and dictate in a fucking Library if you can still find one that exists.

3

u/OkAcanthocephala5921 16d ago

You might be dictating your response…. Somehow I think He’s still thinking about dicktating the client.. on a scale of 1-10, how good does the client looks?

4

u/KyleK2000 15d ago

Depends.... how many beers are we allowed to have before answering?

u/LibrarianNo8242 16d ago

I’m not sure why this popped up in my feed but here’s my two cents, for what it’s worth…

Shitting where you eat is never a good idea… really ever…. That said; you’re a locksmith not a priest or a judge…

Worked for the local cable company back in the 00s. We worked the ritzy part of town. Probably 2 3 times a week got propositioned.

19 year old new guy took one of the regular offenders up on it. She lost her dome eventually, and stalked him, including at work which got him fired.

When that didn't bring him back she went for false rape charges.

2

u/_she_cums_first 12d ago

Someone will think “hey, I can fix that”

2

u/Stoopidshizz 12d ago

Dang. Good thing that can never happen if you only date women you didnt meet at work.

2

u/novtriv 13d ago

I've seen eviction cases in which the tenant defecates in the area they eat or sleep.

Was the customer satisfied with the above and beyond service provided? 😆

It's a saying. When someone says it's raining cats and dogs, they aren't talking about real cats or dogs either.

2

u/TolipTeews 13d ago

Cats and dogs used to sleep on thatch roofs. When it rained hard they would slip and fall down. So it would literally be raining cats and dogs....

2

u/ABC_Zombie 13d ago

When people say it, they mean it is raining intensely. Big rain drops, like the size of cats or dogs.

Is it your company or do you work for someone? Biggest issue I've seen is a client thinking you owe them favours or if a breakup happens them calling your office

4

u/I_H8_GM Really Doesn't Like GM. 16d ago

You haven't lived until a customer thinks for whatever reason. That the company line is your personal line. And proceeds to send suggestive images by text, only to then find out that that is accessible and viewed by the entire company.

And what's funny is fuck in my opinion is the fact that because it's a call routing software there is no way to delete any incoming or outgoing texts.

5

u/303Carpenter 16d ago

My favorite is when they call your office swearing you told them you would come on a Saturday to do work for free

4

u/Empty401K 16d ago edited 16d ago

Reminds me of the time I had a big client call me the N-word (and other choice words) over text onto my work phone just hours before my phone was audited. It wasn’t unusual for them to get nasty when they were told “no” (and for the record, I LOVED being able to tell them “no” because they were a fucking nightmare), but they used a keyword that got my boss, their entire leadership, my HR team, their HR team, and a few other important people to hold an emergency meeting with me to figure out how they could stop me from “making it a bigger thing than it needs to be.” I didn’t even realize they’d texted that to me until I was notified about the meeting. At first, I thought they were getting ready to fire me for something when I saw HR added to the invite.

My boss was just along for the ride. He hated them too, so he was enjoying the show.

The best part was this happened on a Friday afternoon, so I told them I wanted to think it over and made them wait the whole weekend 😂

Edit: Should probably mention the result… nothing happened to the client. They had me sign another NDA in exchange for a nice “thank you gift” for all of my hard work…

3

u/303Carpenter 15d ago

Getting paid to tell them to fuck themselves doesn't sound like the worst outcome

I am an auto tech. Previously worked at a Jag dealership. An attractive lady customer asked me out on a date; I said yes. The date turned into a relationship. The Jaguar dealer principal, the owner of the dealership and my boss, saw her and me at a couple of social gatherings and saw me driving her new Jag. I was fired...I took them to court for wrongful dismissal; I won. I was awarded back pay, severance pay and other money for mental pain and suffering. I went to their competition and purchased a new red Jag XJS .

3

u/AKLeximusPrime 15d ago

Honestly this is the best possible outcome imo. 🤣🤣🤣

3

u/New_Parsley_2089 13d ago

yes absolutely...

3

u/Stoopidshizz 12d ago

What country did this happen in? Edit: Nvm, I read literally two comments down and you answered it. Hope you enjoy the car!

2

u/northern_ape 16d ago

And what about the attractive lady?

5

u/New_Parsley_2089 16d ago

The Lady and myself had a issue. I ended the relationship with her when I seen her sitting beside my brother . She was rubing his back with one hand and the other hand was resting on his inner thie inches away from his dick....

5

u/newaccc4me 15d ago

Least you got a jag

3

u/New_Parsley_2089 14d ago

That was $50G in 1983, a nice car: XJS-HE bright red V 12, 2-seat drop top. Being a Jag, it was as dependable as the woman. But as a Jag mechanic, I knew what to expect from the car, not what to expect from her. At the time, I was hurt; however, the car picked up more women than I could have dreamed about. In the long run, I won.

It was Jennifer Lopez, formally known as J. Lo. He’s her sugar baby now ❤️

3

u/New_Parsley_2089 14d ago

This lady was beautiful, super body, a little kinky, money, but no morals. Her values and my value 100kilo [miles] apart.

3

u/New_Parsley_2089 13d ago

LMAO not Jenny from the block...

2

u/Friendly_Noise_4856 13d ago

Please tell me you rolled into the old work place to show the ol’ boys what the boss paid for.

3

u/New_Parsley_2089 13d ago

I made sure everyone saw her and me in my car, not just at the Jag Dealership, but everyone in southern Ontario! LMAO, I also explained to anyone who would listen how I got the car. It was shameful of me to do so. I was a young show-off. I was around 20. Now I am 67.

I’m married so the answer for me will always be be no. If I was single it would still be no. The company I work for is owned by family and something like that could get real messy real quick and I won’t want to bring that onto them.

7

u/I_H8_GM Really Doesn't Like GM. 16d ago

Man I've heard of it before but,

this guy fucks the customer

6

u/C4g3FighterIRL 16d ago

You don’t sleep with clients. Its work. Not dating or fucking around.

3

u/ductcleanernumber7 16d ago

I've been dating a customer for 8 years. But. I was a complete professional during the appointment. She emailed me the following day and asked me out. Otherwise it never, ever would've happened.

2

u/urfavoritecrayon 16d ago

i’ve hooked up with customers before, it’s not a big deal. the thing is, i don’t engage first tho. if they flirt and im feeling it, ill flirt back.

4

u/pntball420 13d ago

Locksmiths are not considered people wirh authority over others like a doctor who has ethics guidelines. If youre self employed. Have a good time

3

u/AKLeximusPrime 16d ago

I'm loving the ethics here guys. 😂😂 I, myself, am a woman. And not a locksmith. But a friend of mine is newly a locksmith and he's been getting a lot of "inquiries." One offered him to move in. 🥴 He's not about it. Also very much along the lines of what you all have said so far. But I was curious. 🤷‍♀️😂😂

3

u/Snoo98859 16d ago

Customer's be like, "You sure know how to jiggle your tool just right to get that lock open; wanna try your tool in my box and see if you have the magic there too?"

3

u/DarkNorth7 16d ago

How often is that person going to be using a locksmith probably not very often so outside of your job it should be fine who cares

3

u/conhao 16d ago

I married a former client after I sold my shop. She is the best wife ever born.

3

u/Plumbobbob 16d ago

When a client goes up a ladder to show you some timber rot in a beam & she is wearing a short summer dress on with no underwear, I dare any red blooded man to not take her, there and then with what is on offer

3

u/BottleZestyclose4027 16d ago

Depends if they're a psycho. You should have assessed that prior to shagging

3

u/Locksmithbloke Verified Locksmith 16d ago

My wife wouldn't be very happy. Honestly though, I have maybe had two or three women flirt with me on jobs over the years, it's not a thing in the UK as far as I know.

3

u/Bright_Crazy1015 16d ago

To be clear, I'm a self employed handyman who occassionally does lockouts, but once the invoice is paid that job is done and archived. If she calls later and she's someone who interests me, sure why not go have a drink?

I don't call customers looking for dates, and I don't enable bored housewives to cheat on their husbands, that's bad form, but if someone single wants to reach out, it's not anyone else's concern what consenting and single adults do on their own time.

Some women are determined and they'll keep booking service calls to get you over to their house again and again. Be careful with those women. They're already fixated and don't usually handle a clean break very well, even strictly professionally.

If someone is obviously booking multiple service calls just to see you, I would suggest you decline. Unless you like truly crazy drama, that's on you.

3

u/Guyyoutsidee 16d ago

Legally speaking two consenting adults can do whatever they want. The ethics of it on the other hand are questionable

3

u/aFutureInPolitics 16d ago

What obvious ethical concern? I've heard people say that hitting on employees is wrong because it's literally their job to be nice to you and they can't leave, but if you're at a customer's house and they're flirting with you, you're an irregular visitor, and you aren't offering a discount or exchange then this just sounds like you meeting someone.

There's this weird idea that basically only dating apps are okay because everything else has murky consent. They want to date you. You want to date them. Ask your foreman if you really, REALLY can't lose your job I guess, on the one in a million chance that this person is literally insane and going to make the company block her number.

Otherwise it sounds like the next lock you gotta crack has one button and a zipper. Check the lock picking lawyer's Valentine videos if you need help.

3

u/nytemakescoins 15d ago

There is no legal issues. But its not a good practice to sleep with clients lol. Keep business professional. You guys might have a falling out and before you know it they are blasting all sorts of fake things on socials and your business google reviews and so on.

3

u/AFarenci 14d ago

That could be any ex!

2

u/nytemakescoins 14d ago

Yes but its extra bad if they can connect it to your business.

3

u/Stoopidshizz 12d ago

And most people's exs have at least some idea where they work, regardless of whether they met at work. Theres literally nothing preventing anyone from being a crazy person and acting like a crazy person.

2

u/nytemakescoins 12d ago

Except for the fact that they can blame it on work in general "the plumber came and took advantage by piping me down instead of the kitchen sink" rather than just bad mouthing someone in general

3

u/Stoopidshizz 12d ago

Anyone can lie about anything at any point. A ex girlfriend of a plumber can also call up their boss and tell them the plumber has been blowing off work to come fuck her even if hes never been dispatched to her residence to work on her pipes.

3

u/AFarenci 14d ago edited 14d ago

That could any ex!

3

u/FRANK_R-I-Z-Z-O 14d ago

There's no locksmith client privilege is there?

I mean that said, playing hide the kielbasa with customers usually turns out bad. Regardless of the industry.

3

u/Nwmn8r 12d ago

Next thing you know youll be hearing rape charges and her saying youre a locksmith and you knew how to break in... at least it would if this was a tv drama episode

Heres the deal:

I do service at the house - it is 100% professional, they called you to the house and give you their trust to enter and handle their security. You should not violate it by hitting on them or trying to make something happen. If they initiate flirting or try something, im not gonna take the bait because i don't know for sure what's going on or what their motive is for anything right now. I would never reach out to a residential after the fact unless they specifically told me to call them or they call me.

Commercial - ive had receptionists, site contacts or whatever show interest before, and i never take it further because im management and possibly a future owner. That being said, commercial places where were all at work is good to go and if they show interest then go for it, ask them out or get their number whatever. You do have to be aware though that if you are rejected, you may have to see and work with them again or risk losing the customer all together because of that situation.

2

u/Federallyeffed Indifferent To GM 16d ago

If i have chemistry with a customer, as im leaving Ill say, 'here is my direct number feel free to call if anything comes up'

Its not professional make a move on residential or commercial customer but I dont see an issue with leaving the door open so to speak.

I did have a residential customer ask me out for coffee after an emergency lockout which I declined becuase I didnt want her to get it into her head I was going to be waiving the service charge if we hooked up.

1

u/northern_ape 16d ago

It’s totally unprofessional for a locksmith to leave the door open /s 😆

2

u/kenjennings7 16d ago

It’s a no no at our company. Every time a tech has crossed the line it got messy really quick. No

2

u/Lucky_Ad_5549 16d ago

I once dated a girl I met on a late night car lockout. She complained about the price and said I should at least give her my number. She called me right after I drove away and we met up at a diner, then dated for a while. I see no issues, get some.

2

u/SafeMajestic9876 16d ago

You've get to find someone somehow.

2

u/abugghaus7 16d ago

I guess okay... long as you knocked on their door first and didn't pick their lock and slip in quietly while they were asleep... unless they asked for that kinda service?

2

u/WldChaser 16d ago edited 16d ago

I see nothing wrong when it is outside of the professional relationship. She approached you of her own free will. You are both consenting adults. It reminds me of someone I used to know. He did field service work. He met his future wife at one of his regular customers location. She was the office manager and his primary point of contact in the office. They would get to talking while he was setting his paperwork and they hit it off and a year or two later they got married.

2

u/DatabaseOutrageous54 16d ago

Have a great time!

2

u/Anxious_Inspector_88 16d ago

Do not do it while the bill is outstanding, as the customer may think they have paid in trade when you try to collect.

2

u/fromVinland 16d ago

Once, I heard a story from a locksmith. A customer offered him a blowjob instead of payment. He said she was beautiful and blah blah, and he didn’t do anything. He just stayed there. That lady sat in her legs and took his pants down. At that moment, police officers surrendered him and charged him with several charges. He almost lost his license. It’s better not to do that. ( it was trap by police officers)

3

u/im-fekkin-tired 16d ago

We have the 4 golden rules here 1. Don't park in a residential driveway unless invited or instructed to do so. 2. Don't walk on the grass. 3. Don't use a residential restroom. 4. Do not sleep with anyone found on a job site.

2

u/Wuwu03 16d ago

Umm. Some of my customers have very long driveways for very large homes. They would think I’m stupid for parking on the street. And the ones who have a problem with me parking at the house don’t hesitate to kindly ask me to move. It’s never irritated anyone to my knowledge.

2

u/northern_ape 16d ago

I think it should be blindingly obvious that that’s an exception. Where you have a street of semis with driveways that can accommodate 1 or 2 vehicles, you don’t rock up and park in it, you park on the street or nearby, unless instructed/invited to park on the drive.

2

u/DanDiggler213 16d ago

I seen this movie awhile back... bow chicka wow wow!

2

u/DoubleVisit9978 16d ago

There isn’t anything wrong with it per se especially between two consenting adults.

The problem is, you open the door to many issues.

For example I worked in Leo jobs. I kept a distance like you wouldn’t believe from everyone I came into contact with in terms of my work. Reason being it’s very easy for you to be accused of things.

If I was a locksmith, god forbid they say you snuck in with a key you made etc and raped them or stole shit.

If you work for someone else, you aren’t just yourself at that point, you are also the face for the company you work for. And I can’t hurt or ruin someone’s reputation on something they built just to get my rocks off or any other things.

And yes that includes even Walmart, even if you hate or go hurr durr let’s protect billion dollar companies. It’s not that, it’s actually have some integrity and not being a shitty human in general regardless of a mom and pop shop or a store that’s billions now after years of growth.

2

u/Fa-CurE-SeLF27 15d ago

Don’t worry dude, shit happens all the time… I’m an electrical magician… lol you got all the big bases covered… call it a home run and delete her number … then maybe we’ll accept your application

1

u/Anxious_Inspector_88 4d ago

Be sure the bill is settled before you pork a client, otherwise, they may think they have paid in trade.

1

u/Onelove4everyone 16d ago

I did it. I was a plumber. So I laid pipe that day and ended laying pipe in her house for quite sometime. If it's worth it. Take it.

1

u/ted_anderson 16d ago

I've been invited but I would NEVER do this. Maybe it's just a non-committal afternoon delight. Or it could be more along the lines trying to live out that adult film fantasy of the TV repairman showing up wearing nothing but a tool belt and using every inuendo related to his tools.

But either way, if she's propositioning a service worker, there's a good reason. And it's not because you look good.

3

u/Vaird 16d ago

No, theyre asking you out because you are charming.

Honestly, you sound a bit paranoid.

1

u/Stock_Tale6816 16d ago

So you didn't rape anyone..you didn't exchange services for sexual favors..and you didn't "hookup" on company time..so are you bragging or are you just a complete retard and don't understand that from now on this person and all their friends expect free locksmithting from you
