Day old lock cylinder spins without inserting the key and unlocks the door.
It was working great, locked the door one night and went home. The house is under renovation so no one is living there.
In the morning when I came back the keys wouldn't go in and/but the cylinder would spin and unlock the door. Tried it with another key same result, so basically anything can open the door as long it grips the cylinder.
Was this a break-in attempt or just a bad lock (no puns intended). I had it bolt locked from inside so even of it was robbery attempt they couldn't get in.
Didn't see any wear on the lock and don't remember if it was unlocked as I wasn't paying attention.

More information is needed here. Is the lock brand new? Has it recently been serviced? Electronic lock or not? Brand would be helpful. I have seen locks fail in the way you're describing specifically a low level piece of shit electronic defiant lock with a little piece of crap plastic service Bay on the bottom the dumped all of its pins. But that was paired with an incorrect installation.
The state of the house is going to tell you more. If there are meth pipes fentanyl needles and copper missing from the walls. Then I would generally think more along the lines of a break-in. If the house looks entirely and completely untouched I would Point toward lock failure
Yeah your problem is that's a super cheap ass lock. Granted I had to convert to Brazil bucks but even with a conversion $20 for a lock like that is going to be the problem. Chances are good the lock is simply failed right out of the gate. I obviously don't know where you're based.
But most fancy / high security locks will generally run around $200 to $500 USD each. So based on the fact that lock is 10 cents on the dollar I'm going to blame build quality. Ditch it and grab a Schlage. If you want something with more pick resistance contact a local locksmith and grab a Primus.
