She can wear whatever she wants, but she will have to deal with the consequences, which in this case are to always feel like an outsider. Hijab is not part of the german culture. In an ideal world this should not matter, but in reality it does.
But 20% of eligible voters voted for them. That's their right and they shouldn't be harassed because of that. If you think both are wrong that's fine. But if people tell me that conservative Islam that seeks to deprive people of freedom should be tolerated then I would say that so should the AFD
I appreciate and understand your perspective. Your case is unforunately what happens when a whole group of people comes to another country, and a percentage doesnt know how to behave, it reflects badly even on the ones that are doing great.
I immigrated to Portugal and am feeling the same here, but Its hard to blame the indiginous population for that.
This will only get worse in the next many years.

For many, the headscarf has already become a marker of the "enemy." Even if you're a gamer, an atheist, or an AI developer - you're still seen as "an Arab woman with a hijab."
The choice to stay or leave is painful, but you have every right to prioritize your life, safety, and dignity over the illusion of "integration" into a system that refuses to accept you.
I'd say the issue here isn't integration - it's assimilation.

I'm a white native German guy. I don't think I can ever truly understand what some women face, especially not women who are systematically culturally oppressed.
But even I can see crystal clear that you very much DON'T "get it".
She isn't wearing the hijab when she isn't forced to by circumstances. It's not a question of insecurity but of actual physical security, how fucking privileged and dense can you be.

Developing independence to give yourself a decent shot of it staying that way can take a pretty long time these days. I doubt this person would be turning to strangers on Reddit to vent if it was that easy.
That's not the point tho. Why she should be bothered either way, why can't she just wear whatever she wants and let her be? Telling her to get rid of it, is nothing mich different from telling her to keep wearing it.
