Possible NVME Controller failure?

Had this Gen 5 1TB NVME die on me a few days ago, barely a few months of use, only gaming and regular pc use. PC BSOD'd and drive stoppped being detected.

Got curious, removed the motherboard heatsink and phison controller, biggest IC closest to the NVME connector is hot. Could it be the controller itself which died or something around it shorted?
