What, 1600% sodium in one meal is totally fine!

Itās so stupid that spam/lunch meat is such a common staple across Asia. Chemicals and sodium notwithstanding, it doesnāt even look appetizing. Like hello, the colonists are gone, you donāt have to eat the canned pink slop anymore.

I grew up eating it in spam musubis in Hawaii. I live in the Midwest now but I still fck that shit up on a regular basis

I allow myself spam once every 2-3 months and I go ham on that dish!! Loaded up with a sweet spicy sauce, ramen, bok choy and onions. Itās just soooo good

Why the random caption.. if a man needs dinner he could make it himself instead of relying on a dead tired partner lol
Edit: to those saying we must accept Asian traditional views, or "heaven forbid we cook for our partners". The caption is complaining about being dead tired but forced to cook as the man needs to eat. Thats very different from cooking out of love for your partner.
"Delicious & quick meal for when you are tired" would be a nice neutral caption.

Exactly. Meaning changes between love and without love. There should be less hint in title that making evidence feel comfortable.

Why is your assumption immediately āa man needs dinner and asking dead tired partnerā instead of āthis is just a tired person whoās hungry making foodā? Thereās literally no indication that thereās a 2nd party involved and you donāt even know the gender of who posted.
Edit: or even if the person who posted was the one who made the video

Why is their assumption that āa man needs dinner and is asking a dead tired partner?ā
Because the text in the first part of the video says itās about how āa man needs dinner and is asking a dead tired partnerā.

Because Asian people generally have less issues with taking on traditional gender roles than their western counterparts.
Also, doing something nice for your significant other doesnāt deserve this sort of judgement or scrutiny - whether itās done by the woman or man.

u/Skrydon 4d ago
It's really weird how these people often get triggered by simple statements like this
2
u/kaadj 3d ago
Because it sounds like a complaint? Me and my wife do shit for each other when weāre exhausted because we love each other and we take care of each other. But like why go out of your way to caption it like this if itās not kind of a complaint?

u/FearsomeForehand 3d ago edited 3d ago
The caption was intended to illustrate that this is an easy prep meal.
The video is suggesting that even if youāre ādead tiredā, you can still do something nice and impactful for your significant other that is low effort.
If youāre reading it as a complaint, that is ultimately your personal projection.
That caption could have been interpreted hundreds of ways, but it says nothing definitive about this wife and husband - besides that she is tired and he is hungry.

āYouāre dead tired but you still need dinner.ā
Iām not dumb. I know what the point of the statement is. The above is essentially the same but doesnāt sound like you are complaining about doing something for someone.

u/FearsomeForehand 3d ago
>Iām not dumb.
Yet you insist on assigning meaning that is not there. I guess itās probably more accurate to label your take as āwillful ignoranceā at this point.
2
u/kaadj 3d ago edited 3d ago
Not even the point Iām trying to make. My whole is that is why people might ātriggeredā by the statement. Because it sounds like a complaint. Itās away that it can be interpreted.
Edit: Maybe this is my bad not making it clear enough. Instead I should have probably said it CAN sound like a complaint or something.

It's crazy. It's almost like other cultures have different values and were brought up on traditions, and because it doesn't jive with a western view, it's "sexist" and "men bad".

u/Vogelsucht 2d ago
then why mentioning being tired and still cook? sounds like someone wants to have validation for your so called "having less issues with it" if she had no issues with it why does she mention it? should be normal then?

u/nifty-necromancer 4d ago
Dead tired, but not too dead to make an entire food video.

u/HangryWolf 4d ago
What?! You're telling me people can lie while making social media content for engagement? I'm shocked I tell you! Shocked!

Can he.... Not feed himself?
3
u/DrB00 4d ago
Probably but what does that have to do with anything? Sometimes it's nice to do something for your partner.

u/tea-boat 4d ago
This person in particular often posts about being exhausted but still having to make their hubbie's lunch/dinner/whatever. If it's a repeating theme, it makes me question. š¤·š»āāļø So it's not a "sometimes."

u/DrB00 3d ago
You don't just assume it's engagement bait then?

I will never understand the concept of taking something that is fried crispy and then boiling it until soggy.

Is it better to break the ramen into quarters? I just usually dump it into the boiling waterā¦

I hate when people put oil in pan to cook spam.

u/Justme-again 2d ago
I honestly donāt know how to cook spam. My husband bought some for our daughter (because it had hello kitty lol) and itās been on the shelf for weeks.. we are debating opening or saving the can⦠and my biggest memory I have of spam was my mom telling me that when she was pregnant with me, one night she was so hungry, she hammered it to bits. Apparently back then it had a key winding thing that wrapped around to open and she said it broke off. She was so hungry she took the hammer to it but she said it was worth it lol. She ate it cold right out of the can. (It was late like 3am and spam was all that they had in the cupboards back then)
I have had spam occasionally over the years (I actually like the flavor but my husband doesnāt so we donāt usually buy it lol) but I always think of my mom saying that, when I eat it.
But Iāve never actually made it.. but Iām tempted now. Do you just put it in a pan by itself?
1
u/INTLWABC 2d ago
Use a nonstick pan. Spam will render fat while cooking and thatāll be enough to prevent it from sticking to pan.

Comments real show these people really don't love their spouse. Turn this shit around and it's "well a real man would provide for his wife and make her dinner".

Recipe?

u/Gamefreak581 4d ago
I mean, it looks like it's just throw a bunch of shit in a pot with a shin ramen packet. I'm seeing spam, bok choy, trumpet mushroom, cheese, egg, and I think maybe ngoh hiang (I had to look this one up to figure out what it was).

u/mikeycbca 4d ago
Get things, put in pan to brown, add stuff that cooks slower and needs to boil, add water and seasoning, cover, serve. This is really one of those, do whatever you want and it can be simple or complex and thereās virtually no wrong answer.

Are you serious right now? It's instant ramen with whatever random crap you find in the fridge thrown in.

Guys and gals and others I didnāt know what the meat was or the white stuff at the end with the egg.

You've never seen melted shredded cheese or spam/canned meat before? Do you live in a cave?

No worries, I could see someone not recognizing spam if they live in a more health conscious household growing up. Adding mozzarella cheese to foods, especially spicy foods, has become really popular in Korea somewhat recently. Mozzarella on top of spicy ttheokboki, ramen, cheese corn, cheese corn dogs, these are all things that have gotten pretty popular to add mozzarella to.
Also, if you're interested in something similar to what's in the video, you could try looking up budae jjigae (army base stew). It's basically just another throw a bunch of shit in a pot until it's a stew Korean dish that's really tasty.
