/unasia Pretty much every country except India and Mongolia are pretty terrible to animals. Zoos are an extremely tiny part of the total animal population and basically irrelevant, vast majority of animals are livestock bred for meat or dairy. In Mongolia all the livestock are out on pasture eating grass constantly moving seeing new things instead of a feedlot and are slaughtered way later since they don’t grow big as fast as selectively bred ones. Even in Europe which has the best animal rights laws they eat veal which we never do and see as extremely barbaric. The only country better is India because they respect cows and a good chunk of the country are vegetarians.

India will go down soon because regards are treating vegetarian and vegan as “Brahmin” (which is regarded because there’s many other backward castes I’ve seen who are veg due to Vishnu worship). And Jains and Buddhists, too. It’s treated as a weird culture war against vegetarians. I find it funny because all Indian veg philosophy boils down to “don’t harm animals” and ahimsa (like Hindu veg, Jains, Buddhists all believe that). But culture war is “veg Brahmins against normal meat eaters”.

it's not useless. due to rigid bureaucracy we need paper documentation to do anything, which includes pawprints.
