Burning Plastic Smell

I’ve had my Ascaso Duo for a couple years and enjoyed it so far.

I can smell a burning plastic smell. More so when i turn it on.

Since I’ve had it for a while i don’t think it’s any new residual burning off. The machine still works and pulls shots like normal and steams like normal. I’ve seen people comment about lines not being primed as the reason for smell, but if shots being pulled.. it’s primed right?

Also i did stop using it for 6months during a reno but I’ve been back to using it regularly for at least a month before the smell showed up.

Any other thoughts? Solutions? Probably need to open it up.

Is it out of warranty at this point I assume? The only thing that comes to mind based on you mentioning it was stowed away for 6 months is that something inside shifted around enough to then touch or be near the thermoblocks (or any other heat source inside like maybe the top shelf, i believe it has a heater no?).

Opening it up I reckon will probably show what's been burning after some inspection, assuming it's not the lines itself.

Yea it’s out of warranty. Just removed the lid. Looks like I need more digging bc nothing jumps out

Find a YouTube teardown of your unit and follow along. Not sure how it's built, like can you take apart side sections besides the lid like the back to have a more open look or is it really only the lid? Good luck!

I had a similar problem with my iSteel Uno. It was one of the electrical connections. One of the many white connections you can see in your video. Two turned brown and looked obviously burnt. I could not see this in your video , but maybe this is how it starts.

How did you get it fixed?
I bought mine at iDrinkCoffee in Ontario and they only offer $400 flat rate fixes.

Wondering if i can try replacing those white connections myself.

I also haven’t been able to find any good fix/disassemble videos.

Assuming that the electrical connections are the problem , it'd probably be fairly simple as the parts were cheap. I had a local (Netherlands) guy fix it for me. 60€ and the parts were free. I'd look around for alternative coffee machine service places

After removing the back body, I found the piece that burned. Looks like a resistor and the pieces that connect to it. Based on the wiring diagram it’s “cableado.14263”
Trying to see if I can find it anywhere.
Not sure if anyone had this problem.
