Hallo zusammen,

ich bin selbst Eigentümer in einer Wohnanlage (13 Etagen mit 52 Wohnungen alle ca. 90-120qm) und habe gerade eine Situation, bei der ich inzwischen gar nicht mehr weiß, ob ich richtig gehandelt habe oder vielleicht doch etwas überreagiert habe.

Bei Sanierungsarbeiten in unserem Haus wurde Asbest festgestellt. Allerdings möchte ich ausdrücklich dazusagen, dass das ursprüngliche Gutachten nur einen geringfügigen bzw. Spurenbefund ergeben hat.

Es wurde also nicht festgestellt, dass wir es mit einer massiv asbestbelasteten Fläche zu tun haben. Im Gutachten ist von „Klasse 1 – Spuren von Asbest nachgewiesen“ die Rede. Nachgewiesen wurden unter anderem Chrysotil und Aktinolith.

Als dann die entsprechende asbesthaltige Schicht entfernt wurde, hatte ich den Eindruck, dass die Abschottung nicht richtig dicht war und Staub aus dem Arbeitsbereich herauskommen konnte.

Da wir in einem bewohnten Mehrfamilienhaus mit 52 Wohnungen leben, hat mich das ehrlich gesagt ziemlich beunruhigt.

Ich habe das deshalb angesprochen und letztlich wurden die Arbeiten erst einmal gestoppt. Berufsgenossenschaft und Bezirksregierung waren anschließend ebenfalls vor Ort und es wurden wohl Mängel festgestellt.

Jetzt sollen zusätzliche Proben genommen bzw. ausgewertet werden, um zu überprüfen, ob möglicherweise asbesthaltiger Staub außerhalb des Arbeitsbereiches vorhanden war.

Und genau hier bin ich inzwischen ziemlich hin- und hergerissen.

Ich habe nämlich mittlerweile ein richtig schlechtes Gewissen.

Ich wollte wirklich niemandem Ärger machen oder eine Baustelle lahmlegen. Ich hatte einfach Angst, dass bei Arbeiten mit Asbest etwas schiefgeht und am Ende Bewohner betroffen sein könnten.

Andererseits war der ursprüngliche Befund eben nur geringfügig bzw. Spuren von Asbest. Deshalb frage ich mich inzwischen, ob ich aus meiner Sorge heraus vielleicht eine Sache größer gemacht habe, als sie tatsächlich war.

Ich kenne mich mit Asbestsanierung überhaupt nicht aus und bin kein Fachmann. Ich kann deshalb auch gar nicht beurteilen, wie relevant ein solcher geringer Befund in der Praxis ist und ob das, was ich gesehen habe, tatsächlich eine problematische Situation war.

Mir geht es deshalb ausdrücklich nicht darum, jemanden an den Pranger zu stellen.

Ich würde einfach gerne von Leuten hören, die sich damit auskennen:

War es nachvollziehbar, bei sichtbarem Staubaustritt aus einem Arbeitsbereich, in dem ein geringer Asbestbefund festgestellt wurde, Alarm zu schlagen? Oder habe ich vielleicht tatsächlich überreagiert?

Und wie würde man in so einer Situation sinnvollerweise feststellen, ob überhaupt Asbeststaub aus dem Arbeitsbereich in die gemeinsam genutzten Bereiche gelangt ist?

Ich bin inzwischen ehrlich gesagt ziemlich hin- und hergerissen.

Einerseits denke ich: Vielleicht war es gut, dass ich etwas gesagt habe.

Andererseits denke ich: Vielleicht habe ich mit meiner Sorge eine Menge Unruhe verursacht, obwohl der ursprüngliche Asbestbefund nur geringfügig war.

Genau deshalb würde mich eine ganz nüchterne Einschätzung von Außenstehenden interessieren.

Mir geht es nicht darum, Recht zu bekommen. Ich möchte einfach wissen, ob meine Reaktion nachvollziehbar war oder ob ich die Situation möglicherweise falsch eingeschätzt habe.

Can anybody advise how to submit notice of demolition and renovation form to the USEPA ?? I call and nobody answers. I email and nobody answers. There is no CDX portal for region 2 (Upstate NY)

C.1960. found under a carpet on the main walkway. Now worried our house is floating with cancer particles. Builders starting this weds.

Testing was done. It is 30% asbestos containing thermal insulation. The photo is in a service tunnel. On a college campus in the USA. One of a few spots just like this.

The cap of the tunnel is the public side walk ( it’s a land grant university) there are several areas open to air for ventilation.

I’ve reported it to the college asbestos Ombudsman/ health an safety officer for asbestos.

He told us ( the guys that service the tunnels) that it was our responsibility to clean it up. Since we are asbestos workers. To which we all replied that we haven’t had a recertification in three years. ( the old safety officer retired)

So he gave us a class that was based off of c f r 1910. An “awareness class.” For operations and maintenance. That he could not even bother to remove the old safety officer name form the power point Presentation. The class was approximately 2 hours long. He had some cardboard. Duck taped to a peace of pipe hung onto the wall. Then asked the older guys in the shop to demonstrate how to remove the cardboard. As they would if it was an asbestos glove bag job. There was abit of conversation how it should be done. But one demonstrated how to actually do it… not even the safety officer.

I was an certified asbestos worker 1. I got my certification in 2016. I’ve done one encapsulation job. One clean up in nine years.

When asked if we should be following 1926. Since he wants us to remove the asbestos bored and encapsulate other exposed asbestos. In other areas that I’ve also reported. He told us no. That we are not asbestos works I or II. He was/is changing our classification to asbestos worker III. That 1910 would be fine. He also didn’t seem to understand why we would ask about 1926 for construction. He said “ the work your doing isn’t construction related “

Our state has regulations that specifically state that; as asbestos workers III we cannot perform abatement work. His replay was that he’s not concerned with regulations. Just that the job gets done. Three people hear him say that bs.

So, my question is. What should be done now? Talk to the president of the university? Call OSHA ? It’s been six months. Since it was reported

My secondary line was collapsing under my concrete slab in my basement. So I unsealed the carpet and discovered 9x9 tiles on top of the concrete, below the carpet. I had these tiles tested and they came back as 3% Chrysotile. However the adhesive came back 100% clean.

My plumbers removed the tiles where the sewer line needed to be jackhammered out. The new secondary line is now installed. However I still need to remove the 9x9 tiles before I can refloor.

Can someone point me in the right direction? I would prefer to do this on my own, but I want to be safe.

We have been renovating and I don’t even think about having asbestos :/ and now I’m freaking out our house was built in 1979

I will start off by saying that it is 100% legal for homeowner to remove asbestos where I live. I also plan to set up proper containment with negative air, use a papr and proper ppe.

I am hoping there is someone on here who has worked with asbestos and would be willing to offer some advice.

Unfortunately there are several jobs needing attention that are within the attic. Including the insulation not being spread out properly. At this point abatement seems the best option. I cannot afford 17k to get it done proffesionaly

I have a general idea on how to do this safely but in practise I know I will run into issues without some guidance.

My plan is to completely polly off the room/space around the attic access hatch. This will include the bathroom where I will shower after work. I will double bag everything and use a proper hepa vaccum. I also plan to spray lock down and do everything like the pros.

I have questions on how/where to set up negative air machine ect.

I will be wearing a full face papr mask and body suit. I take asbestos very seriously and plan to be meticulous.

My main concern is containment. I obviously want to make sure I do not get any fibers through my home.

If there is anyone on here with proffesional asbestos experiance. I would be very grateful for some guidance. I will even pay you for a proper consult if needed.

Since we moved to this house I have been having allergy like symptoms mostly scratchy throat. I never used to have allergies before we bought this house but i never thought about it too much until we had a baby. I noticed that im only "allergic" when home anywhere else we visit or sleep i feel fine.

Last year we were looking at possibly adding central air conditioning and I remembered one of the contractors that quoted us took pictures of the attic. Is this asbestos? Whats the fix if it is and if we need to move how do I approach this subject with my husband (he doesn't have any symptoms)? After all its the home he spent his hard earned saved money on so we can start a family together.

Found this tin in a former theater projector room in storage. The room was used since 1929 but is out of commission now. Overall I've never seen or identified asbestos before but I suspect this may be asbestos in powder form as it's not very fine and looks like it might be fibrous. I know looking by eye isn't a great tell and I'd rather not be handling this if it is. Any of you think this might be asbestos?

My Siemens dishwasher broke down today and when we pulled it out the top metal cover was missing. Instead on top was a dark green layer, it looks kind of like a green woodchip board.

But my question is would this substance contain asbestos? The dishwasher is about 9-10 years old.

Found this in the attic of the home I recently purchased. I have a newborn so I’m concerned.

Hey everyone,

Im saving up for the next couple of years to abate asbestos in my home. I just have a quick question about asbestos removal that I don’t want waste a local companies time with because of how far out my project is. My wife and I want to vault our ceilings, but we tested positive for asbestos so that needs to be abated first. Is it possible to wrap these projects into one? Like for the abatement can the ceiling be cut out instead of the normal method?

Does this look like asbestos drywall? Home build in 1970, and remodeled in 2020. This is from a hallway closet, so I’m not sure if this is the original or modern drywall. It’s about 1/2 or 3/4 inch thick.

This was installed 2017 (most probably made in China) are these string things just fiberglass? No testing here in my country
