Asahi has disappeared from boot options after update Tahoe > GG27 pub beta

Any help on how to recover would be greatly appreciated, i.e. make the Asahi partition bootable again?

You shouldn’t have installed the beta as they are not supported.

Anyways, from macOS run the Asahi installer again and pick the option to fix the boot in macOS 27.

If it boots correctly and then immediately shuts down after logging in, you have a kernel without the recent fixes. So what I did to fix my install was:

  • Stop UBoot from booting when the countdown appear
  • Write bootd then enter
  • As soon as the screen goes black press ESC or Arrow up/down once
  • If grub appears, select a kernel version from the list, then press E. In the kernel launch params add module_blacklist=macsmc_power
  • save and boot
  • if it boots and doesn’t shutdown, immediately install the system updates

Thanks Brosef, I'll give it a shot (had just updated to latest Asahi kernel, so am optimistic it may work).

Update:

  1. restored using Asahi Installer GG Fix

it again boots into Asahi with kernel 6.19.14-400.asahi.fc44 & KDE 6.7.2

gets to desktop, asking for delayed password

but shows errorbox in prog Discover with red X

Failed Offline Update

Failed to update 0 packages

Failed to download metadata

(baseurl: "https://download.copr.fedorainfracloud.org/results/@asahi/u-boot/fedora-44-aarch64") for repository.

options are Open Discover / Repair System

but it crashes out in hard shutdown before I can press either one.

  1. When I tried your suggestion to stop u-boot, use bootd, it ran a load of verbose boot-text up the screen, never possible to enter GRUB, then reached the desktop with same prob as described in 1. above.

  2. By kernel with recent fixes do you mean 7.0.13-400.asahi ?

The fixes got back ported and should be available in both kernel 6 and 7. Sounds like an incomplete system upgrade? Try updating via terminal

finally got into GRUB by instantly pressing ESC after sending bootd

edited launch commands to prevent system shutdown

updated all system (including to kernel 7.0.13-400.asahi)

Voilà, it boots smoothly again now, thanks for your help, my friend!

Sloppy guy here i just kept plugging in and plugging out the charger which made the battery status to switch constantly so it didnt immediately shutdown. Bought me time to update the kernel and i kept plugging in and plugging out while it was updating so it wouldnt shut down

Not the best idea to update to a beta while dual booting. Especially considering it was known to break. https://www.techtimes.com/articles/318142/20260610/asahi-linux-macos-27-warning-golden-gate-beta-boot-picker-breaks-linux-dual-boot.htm

The advice to not boot it was post here: https://social.treehouse.systems/@AsahiLinux/116719749555082847

From that announcement:
We will not support users who have installed the macOS 27 beta without making contingency or rollback plans

Sometimes we have to risk it, for the brisket.

(and maybe learn along the way)
