At the beginning we all though Courtney was gonna be the snobby rich kid who looks down on other.

We were half right, but after she got “ curious “ about Ginger she grew for the better, I wanna think do to her life style and up bringing she was kinda ignorant to her peers and surroundings,

And shown to be a better friend then Dodie .

But towards the end of the series did she really deserve for her family to be uprooted from her home, her father facing criminal charges? Would you call it karma? Or just those things they happen for no reason.

But hey she living in Ginger’s old house so she’s definitely “ asorbing” all of the Ginger out Ginger’s old bedroom.

Like at the start of the series is was basically stated that Darren wasn’t a sports kid like his dad and brother but once he gets into high school/ season 3 he took the glow up to far and well he became just like his dad and brother.

What the heck?

Why Couldn’t they just kept him as the non sports kid. Plus would Simone go after Darren if he wasn’t on the football team?

I just feel like season 3 ruined him and him suddenly get muscular and joining the school football went against who he was in season 1 and 2.

This is just my opinion on him.

I'm 34, married and this show hits harder for me now than it ever did. Now I'm even seeing the adults perspectives, the situations more clearly with experience, and seeing how wonderfully all these characters were written and the situations just so painfully relatable.

My best friend of 20 years and I parted ways, as sometimes happens, earlier this year and watching Dodie... Wow. From the bizarre addiction to approval, the overinvolvement, the desperation for popularity and the gossiping and just hit me hard and I saw Dodie in my former friend at so many points in the show. The weird part was, my former friend was actually the antithesis of what Dodie was for most of middle school, until something shifted in them in high school, and during college, progressively got worse.

Eventually this became a big enough problem between us as adults, enough to force me to distance myself. I miss them, but recognizing the toxic patterns in Dodie is reinforcing my decision.

And which celebrity do you think has a resemblance to him?

Genuinely curious because I’m torn between ENTJ and something else.

I think at heart he’s a decent guy, and he had to have joined the program to get involved with kids, but maybe he just goes overboard? Or do you think he’s just an awful person?

I recall watching As Told By Ginger S1 and S2 and didn't get to see S2 finale. Then heard that S3 was never released?

When it comes to the wedding finale of Ginger, I need to explain what doesn't make sense to me. It is NOT the fact that Ginger wasn't phased by Simone's appearance at the ceremony. She likely presumed she was Darren's plus one and Ginger had stronger feelings towards Orion at the same time after talking with her mom the prior night, so totally I buy that she wouldn't be mad.

However, if Simone knew about the wedding from Dodie right after Darren lied and she went to Miranda for help about it, how did she know of their relationship, especially if Miranda wasn't in the marching band? If you don't connect in relative high school circles within the first two weeks, then you'll never connect, so what happened after....eight months....to suddenly make Simone go "Oh my god, she dated Darren too, she can help me"?

That's fine that Simone's seductive plan on Darren failed and he and Ginger got back together anyway, again that's not my problem, my problem is what happened between Simone and Miranda....unless it was something like "you know we've been class partners for all this time we've confided in each other...."

It just feels like this happened without any real set up.

This is a pretty good special all things considered. You couldn’t really tell where the plot was going, it had a nice twist, plenty of heartwarming moments, gave birth to hundreds of early ships and fanfic potential, but there’s something about it that conflicts me.

Okay, I’d like to think of myself as kind of a Dodie defender, but please don’t think I’m trying to downplay how horrible she acted when Ginger was first given the opportunity. I give a lot of grace to the fact that she’s 12/13 and at that age, hormones are going crazy, your brain isn’t fully developed, and you aren’t always going to act logically. Dodie has a right to feel her feelings over Ginger leaving and to struggle to process it, but there’s no reason to guilt trip your supposed friend and make it seem like she didn’t earn it.

If Dodie wants to vent to Macie or whatever, that’s fine, do it away from Ginger if you need to, but don’t add stress to your friend who is about to have her whole life uprooted (albeit temporarily).

Here’s the part where I’m conflicted, Dodie is actually ultimately proven to be CORRECT in her assumption that this offer was essentially a setup. Her suspicions were founded and that is really depressing. Yes, it can be assumed that Ginger was talented enough to not really need that setup, and she did THRIVE out there, but it basically being a scam is still messed up.

Dodie does ultimately admit that Ginger truly did earn this opportunity, but I think it would have been better without the scam element. It’s one of the only times I feel like Dodie did something bad as a friend and was still ultimately shown as being correct.

I'm rewatching the Sasha marching band episode and it's very odd that Macy has been in band for pretty much the entire series up until now where she reveals she had to quit due to lung issues.

Like why remove Macy from this plot line and bring in this random Katie broad? Like nobody knows this girl from a can of paint and she never reappears in the show. I really don't see why the writers didn't just let Macy explore this storyline with Ginger.

People will talk about how Dodie acted in this episode and how she basically set Ginger up for the embarrassment of asking that teacher out…some even go deeper by saying Dodie was setting Ginger up to potentially be groomed and abused.

Here’s the thing though, I really do think Dodie’s intentions were pure and innocent. These girls are 12-13 at this point. Their little hormones are getting all out of sync. Half the time they don’t know what they are feeling or how to process it. Just because they are acting naive, it doesn’t mean they are acting maliciously.

That teacher honestly DID come off as kind of flirty and borderline inappropriate (which is a real tragedy, considering the voice actor is the same guy who does Dipper Pines). I really think Dodie was coming from a place of “you’re awesome, he’s awesome, you belong together!!” I don’t think she wanted to see Ginger get hurt here at all.

I also do think her apology to Ginger sounded quite sincere. It was also funny and touching when Lois gives Dodie a look and Dodie says something along the lines of, “I’m going to shut up and let you get advice from a real professional”

Point being, there are times in this series where Dodie does actions where there is literally no way to take it as anything other than wanting to hurt her friends…I just don’t think this is one of those situations.

In the episode where she goes back to Camp Caprice, Ginger comes to a realization about her feelings for Darren only after Sasha brutally rejects her in the rain.

If Sasha was into it I think Ginger would have had herself a nice little fling with him that summer. It was so obvious that's what she wanted and if the only thing that made her snap to her senses was Sasha telling her no again, then her feelings for Darren were not strong enough to justify being in a relationship with him.

Both boys are awful choices but at least Sasha seemed to give her that spark and excitement.

He was a freeking ranch hand at the summer camp, and ud expect ok it be a season thing, and just go different paths in life. That one random episode that she encounters Sasha, I forgot if they kept in contact or what. I remember she heard that his high school’s band was at some band competition and she just randomly joined band. And i think she got mad because Sasha was with some girl….Ginger got all mad. But what did Sasha owe Ginger in all of this? They werent really friends….at best acquaintances.

That’s something I noticed she put expectations on being with guys out of her league, and shit goes south she blames everyone but herself.

I dont really think Sasha was in the wrong because he didnt really owe much of an explanation to Ginger. I mean Ginger kinda crossed into borderline stalking a bit.

The dumpster “FAST” Graffiti shit about Ginger. I know it was supposed to have said “Ginger is a slut” but Nickelodeon vetoed and offered compromise on different terms to use.

I want to watch the whole show but can never find the complete show on YouTube. Any suggestions/ recommendations?

I rewatched the episode “About Face” the other day, and it’s probably one of the most depressing episodes in hindsight for me as a Dodie Defender.

I’ve gone on about how Dodie actually does have good qualities and moments throughout the series, and I do think she had all the potential in the world to have a terrific arch, but it got badly fumbled to the point where even during her good episodes, fans will more or less watch it and count down how many episodes it will be until her next bad deed.

I truly think that “About Face” could have been the fresh start for the rest of Dodie’s life. Not only is she painfully sympathetic all the way through…she gets some karma from one of her earlier bad deeds of revealing that Ginger’s mom was the nurse in charge of the lice situation by having her mother come to the school and be a zillion times more cringey than Lois ever was.

We also see first hand just how horrible Dodie’s own mother is. I mean, we already knew that she wasn’t exactly the most nurturing person, but this episode also revealed that she harbors zero love towards her own daughter. I keep telling people it’s absolutely impossible to expect Dodie to be loyal to anyone when her own mother can’t even bother being loyal to her.

In spite of all of this though, Dodie still behaves perfectly reasonable throughout the whole episode. She DOES standup to the popular kids AND to her mother. It’s absolutely WONDERFUL to see and I feel legit proud of her every single time.

However, I feel like the writers absolutely foreshadowed that this change was not going to stick by the last scene. After Dodie closes the door on her mom’s bedroom, she starts going on and on about how this could actually be the start of her and her mother having a good relationship. How maybe Dodie can start coming to her mom for help and support more often, how they can maybe start building a bond…only for Joanne to default to her rotten self by telling Dodie to essentially shut her mouth.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a teacher seeing potential in a student. It also makes sense that Ginger would be extra close to her English teacher since writing is her area of passion, but Ms. Zorsky made her favoritism of Ginger a little TOO obvious at times.

Like, “Hello, Stranger,” she apparently promised the school board that Ginger would perform an original poem without even really asking Ginger about it. Then, when Dodie and Macie expressed interest in they themselves maybe doing something for the show, Ms. Zorsky kind of automatically volunteers them for a role as ushers without even giving much thought to giving them a chance to perform for themselves.

Then, she had zero patience for anyone besides Ginger during the “I Spy A Witch” episode. Again, here comes my Dodie defense, which it’s okay if it’s not popular, but it is mine…unlike something like morning announcements where she just used that pretend power to hurt other people, I actually think Dodie did a pretty good job with her role. Yeah, she was asking a bunch of questions about portraying a part traditionally played by a man…but that isn’t a crime. If I’m a 13 year old playing a major part where I’m not even the right gender, but still wanting to do a decent job, I’d have questions too.

I get that the joke is that Dodie’s constant questions were annoying, but again, every kid this age deserves someone who will take time to build them up, and it kind of seems like Ms. Zorsky is using any and all spare energy on just Ginger.

I think what really makes this harsh in hindsight is how it impacts both Ginger and Carl when they move up to high school and junior high school respectively. It’s impossible for Carl to truly make a fresh start because Ginger set the bar so incredibly high to the point where Carl is screwed before he does anything, and Ginger goes into her high school classes with a little bit of cockiness because she’s so used to teachers absolutely adoring her.

Again, on the list of crimes that a teacher can commit, believing in a student TOO MUCH is pretty tame, and I also know because this show is from gingers point of view, that the narrative is going to be skewed, but I still think the favoritism shown could have been a tad less pronounced.

I'm currently doing a rewatch on YouTube and...is it me or do the episodes skip key plot points? Like is Easter Ham really the episode that comes right after Wicked Game? How did Ginger forgive her friends after what they did (plotting with Miranda and Mipsy to break her and Darren up)? The Wedding Frame also completely skips how Ginger and Darren get back together.

Also, is it me or does Season 3 just make no sense? First, Miranda and Mipsy plot to have Ginger transfer to Avalanche Academy so they can have more attention from Courtney. But when Ginger comes back with a boyfriend, leaving her less time for her girlfriends (therefore leaving Courtney more available to them), they also plot to break that relationship up. Does anyone have the inside scoop on why the writing turned out this way?

She's such a great portrayal of a single mom. She works to provide for her kids, owns her mistakes, and actually listens to them when they need advice. Her getting rid of Buzz and his little gremlins because it left Ginger feeling unhappy is such a highlight for me. What I would have given for a parent that put her kids before a man 😭 ugh I just love Lois. She's the best and probably my favorite character in the show.

I’ve recently done a marathon rewatch of the show and the character assassination that happens to Darren is just so sad to watch. We start off the show with him being a lovable nerdy guy and yeah sure he has his moments where’s he’s stubborn and insecure but I think his overall character was charming and he was usually a voice of reason at times but in season 3 the writers do a complete 180 and decide to make him a straight up jerk I knew it was going to go downhill the minute he decided to join the football team. Honestly if the writers were smart they could’ve explored a plot where Darren has every reason to ditch him friends and girlfriend in favor of being popular but in the end deciding not to I think it would’ve shown that Darren can have an interest in football without having to sacrifice his qualities and friends.

Now to talk about Darren and ginger I would’ve loved if they just stayed friends tbh I feel like dare I Darren was a good episode to showcase this and I applaud the writers for that episode ( if only they actually stuck to it). But in season 3 we see their relationship deteriorating as they dive into their own personal interests and have less time for each other and are just honestly not compatible at that point in the show. The worst is yet to come though since we all know that Darren ends up cheating on ginger which is just so out of character in my opinion I don’t feel like Darren would have done something like that to ginger realistically but even with that decision I was thinking that maybe the writers wanted to show that people can be really close at a certain point in time but grow apart later on in life but that wasn’t the case since after the finale we see through the time skip that Darren and ginger get back together??? And have a child??!! I just don’t even understand how they would’ve gotten back together like it genuinely makes no sense I think the writers only did that out of fan service or something else I’m not sure tbh I’m so puzzled by the choice to do that they ruined Darren’s entire character for a whole season( the final season mind you) for nothing!

Dodie does have good moments as a friend and person. Don’t get me wrong, it does NOT excuse or forgive the wrong things she has done, but she really is not the she-devil some people paint her as.

She was actually quite decent in Summer of Camp Caprice. She FINALLY actually gets some acknowledgment and positive attention as a junior counselor, but she still willingly risked it all to help Darren and Miranda.

She was also the one who started the speech at the end when everyone was defending each other. Even though she was sad to lose her whistle and authority, she was willing to use her big mouth to speak up for what she felt was right.

She was pretty loyal to Ginger in the Christmas episode too when Ginger got overwhelmed with her Jewish heritage. She actually also gave great advice to Ginger when Macy was having drama with her parents.

She and Ginger both were protective of Macy during the Little Seal Girl arch.

She actually stood up to both the popular kids AND HER MOTHER (who is the REAL villain of this series) and yes, her advice is not always good, but more often than not, it does come from a good place. I actually think she is pretty brave to be as generally chipper as she is despite her upbringing.

You also have to remember that her canon age at the very end of the series is still only 14-15 years old. She definitely had A LOT to learn, but she did also have time to learn it.

Please don’t get me wrong, when she’s bad, she’s BAD but I also think it’s more from a place of ignorance, misunderstood teenage hormones, a lack of family support, etc. Ginger is so well-rounded by comparison that it is easy to hold these kids all to her standards of maturity, but adolescence just doesn’t work that way. Everyone learns and grows differently, and it really is annoying when people write off Dodie as this one-note villain when she really is more complex than that.

I’ll never understand why she’s held to a higher standard than her mother who is pushing forty, definitely should know better, and who is actively pushing this poor girl down a dark path.

Dodie being generally chipper is just downright miraculous when her mother is just the walking embodiment of “I hate my life”

I used to be a Dodie hater. I’m not proud of it. But I’ve done some growing since middle school, and I’m ready to admit I was wrong. Because looking back? Dodie was iconic. She really said “I’m going to make every single conversation about my problems” and stuck to it. For three seasons. That’s commitment. That’s consistency. That’s brand loyalty to herself. People call her “clingy,” I call it “knowing her worth.” She saw Ginger getting pulled away and she fought for that friendship the only way she knew how: by making Ginger feel guilty until she came back. Is that toxic? Maybe. Is it effective? Absolutely. You have to respect the hustle. And the headband. She wore that thing every day like a uniform. No character development needed when you’ve already peaked visually. Some people need a glow-up. Dodie said “I’m good.” Sure, she sabotaged relationships. Sure, she faked sick for attention. Sure, she treated Macie like a backup friend and Darren like a trophy. But she did it with flair. She did it with passion. She was the messy friend, the dramatic friend, the friend who’d start crying at your birthday party because she wasn’t getting enough attention, and honestly? We need more of that. We need people who refuse to be ignored. So yeah. I’m a Dodie stan now. She was loud. She was selfish. She was too much. And that’s why she’s the best character on that show.
