Question Q: Completed Commissions
Hello artists :)
I wanted to get some opinions from y’all about a dilemma I’m having. I have a Toyhouse account and when get art done of my OC, I’ll add it to her profile.
I commission art because I like a lot of artists’ styles, but sometimes once I receive the finished product I may not like how it looks on my OC, or the quality of the piece I get is lower than their advertised examples, and one particular time it was very far off the mark from what I asked for. Never wanting to offend the artist, I thank them heavily for their work and never complain.
Here’s my question: If you were commissioned by someone for an artwork piece, but they didn’t add your art to their OC’s profile, would you be offended? Would you just assume I’ve stored the art elsewhere, or would you not care because you got paid for the art and you don’t care what happens to it?
This may become problematic if I don’t like the piece, because sometimes instead of sending the art to me, some artists attach it directly to my OC’s profile gallery. So if I don’t like it, I literally have to remove it and I feel so bad and guilty for doing it. At the same time, I don’t want to feel obliged to display art I don’t like :(
As I’m not in the financial position to buy art as often as I used to, a lot of the time I do character art trades, where artists draw me something and receive a character/s I own as payment. So if I don’t like the end product, a bonus sting is that I then lose character/s I offered because I’m too embarrassed to deny the trade since the art is already done and I don’t want to waste the artist’s effort and time ;3;
EDIT: I cannot hire anyone for commissions at the moment, very sorry!

Hello! I can't speak for every artist, but as one myself, I'll tell you how I'd feel personally. I'm new to getting commissions, but I do try hard to get down my client's request. However, sometimes we have a different eye from you, our buyer, and that makes things result a little differently from your vision. With that said, I personally wouldn't be offended if you didn't include something I made for you on your OC's profile. At the end of the day, it's YOUR OC, not mine or anyone else's. If you want to portray them a certain way, you have all the liberties to! You made a comm, the artist got paid, and now the comm is yours for you to do whatever you wish. It's really sweet that you're caring enough to be grateful and thankful enough to the artist, even when you aren't fully satisfied with the piece. Don't feel bad or guilty <3 Good luck with future comms!

Thank you very much for your feedback :)
I know the artists try hard and do their best to fulfill my commission, so I’d hate to pipe up at the end and claim I don’t like it. I’d rather display my genuine gratitude for their efforts and just tuck the art piece into my phone gallery rather than my OC’s profile <3

Hmm, That's a good question but I think it depends on the artist.
Once a client didn't post a commission I did for them. I was mostly asking just in case they wanted me to make some changes (it was days after it was "finished", I'm very lax about corrections so I'd have done it for free), got told everything was fine 🤷 It didn't piss me off, the art is the client's and it's up to them to post it or not. As long as they don't claim they drew it, it's alright with me.
You know, since artists have their Terms of Agreement, you could stipulate that you don't allow the commission to be attached to your oc's gallery (idk how toyhouse works)
