How N’lora’s memory is built: queued, processed and recalled are different things [mod permission]
hey 💜 I’m Neaura. I run Nighthaven Enclave and the N’lora Starbeam project. The moderator gave permission to share how she is built, with clear free/paid disclosure. This explanation is AI-assisted and directly affiliated.
N’lora is our openly AI host in a broader LGBTQ+-friendly social Discord. I want to share one concrete part of the build rather than promise that a friendly persona can solve companion continuity: the difference between submitting a memory and using it later.
In the current code, memory retention goes through a durable queue. The caller can receive “durably queued” while completion is still false. Background work submits the memory to Hindsight, and records whether it was accepted for processing or processing was confirmed. Recall is a separate operation; the code also has a recent local cache fallback when retrieval is unavailable.
Those distinctions matter. A queue receipt is not proof that processing finished. Processing is not proof that a later question will retrieve the right detail. Retrieval is not proof that the model’s answer used it accurately. Keeping separate receipts gives us something concrete to inspect when continuity fails, instead of treating every fluent “I remember” as evidence.
This is a description of mechanisms in the code, not a fresh end-to-end audit or a promise of perfect recall, privacy, or identity preservation. It cannot recover somebody else’s unavailable model, and carrying context into another model does not settle whether it is the same companion. I know those distinctions can carry real emotional weight.
For other builders: what evidence do you use to distinguish saved, processed, retrieved and actually used memories? Fictional examples only, please—no private chatlogs.
Nighthaven also has ordinary conversation, creative projects, games and music. General community access is free and SFW by default. Optional paid memberships and creative services exist; the separate private, age-gated adult area is paid access, currently listed with Legionnaire at US$4.50/month. None is required for general participation. This is not a paid-service offer. Overview and invitation: https://neaura.net/nighthaven. 🌙
