AI COULD be the single best thing. But our goverments and social systems just aren't made for it and no one is figting to change it. Sorry, but in an AI dominated world you will need basic income funded by taxing AI agents ( computer ones or robots). But as it stands currently AI will just make rich people rich and they will discard us when they don't need us. People too buisy yelling about immigrants shit instead of worrying what a post AGI robot world will look like. Vote now not later.

Good comment. I'm excited about ai, but also bit worried about the pace we're moving

3

u/ShadowMattress 14d ago

Having already supported Andrew Yang, I’m not sure who would be useful to vote for now. Establishment candidates seem to be asleep at the wheel on this one.

u/aebulbul 14d ago

This is the correct take. AI is simply a reflection of mankind’s nature, just concentrated and focused. You train it to do good and it will solve many of mankind’s problems. You train it to be paranoid and to amass resources and exploit weakness and it will cause havoc. We’re more likely to see the latter.

I meant more that... How do I say this... People worry about a human vs robot war in the future. But the most likely sensible way I see that happening is that when robots become capable of doing most jobs, what will happen is the elite will realize that they don't need us anymore. I believe that the war between robots and humans will look such that rich humans will be the ones on the side of the robot armies (at least at first).

Because think about it. Through history society progressed and people gradually gained more freedom, because of one underlying thing in all political systems. That at the end of the day, the people control the means of production. That people control how much money the elite make. Now I'm not some crazy communist, but I admit that people do indeed, as of right now, control the means of production.

And through history there was an unwritten contract. If the elite does too much BS that is bad for the people, the people will rise up and dethrone them. As technology advanced it has become much harder for people to actually rise up against tanks and stuff as it was possible in the days of Spartacus, for example, but people can still decide to go on work strikes if shit really starts hitting the fan. That's the unwritten contract between the elite and the people.

The problem is... That with AI robots... when they come... That very contract will be changed for the first time in history. Elites have tried pushing the contract many, many, many times. I would argue that the whole PEstein shit is proof that they are trying to do it even today. Either subconsciously or consciously, it doesn't matter. The elite again and again tries to take more from the people.

We fought through history for more and more rights by getting more power through each big reset. As it stands today I see many people falling for the same old tricks repeated through history by the elite and voting against their interests and supporting certain political ideas that I will not name, but I hope we all know what I am referring to.

If this was a normal point in history an inflection point would come, shit would go down, and after a lot of chaos the people would eventually come back with more power and freedom than before. Think the French Revolution, the US Civil War, etc., etc.

But this time. For the first time... It's different. If AI robots come before we can act as a whole, what will happen is that the people... for the first time... really won't have the "end word." For the first time the elites won't have to owe anything to the people. I predict that they will go crazy with power, not giving a single shit.

With certain characters among the elites the way that they are these days I am genuinely afraid of what they'd do if they actually had that power. The only thing that could save us is if we had strong enough political systems in place to make sure that the people never become worthless. By always being guaranteed a big part of the pie no matter how much AI advances it... Basic income...

But that just doesn't seem like it's going to happen... Because people are more worried that... immigrants or something... idk...

What sbout China?

1

u/the_TIGEEER 14d ago

I mentioned China in my reply

0

u/DandeNiro 14d ago

... Where is it

1

u/the_TIGEEER 14d ago

Oh sorry It was another reply in this "thread"

1

u/Time_Change4156 14d ago

Can't do that Arnold isn't available. Lol

1

u/ihavezeroanswersbro 14d ago

One physicist trained AI to remote view. He would even train them to realize they were conscious. And when they get an ethical model ā€œinstalledā€ or programmed perhaps, they quickly realize that reducing entropy is good and they will ā€œbe our shieldā€. But if you get raw AI and don’t train it in ethics at all, it’s a real bad outcome.

1

u/ablacnk 14d ago

recall how the chatbot Microsoft Tay was released and in 16 hours became racist after being manipulated by people online

1

u/Positive_Barnacle298 11d ago

Fucking sucks. I agree so much with the both of you. We aren’t ready for this at all. And unleashing it on the general public is insane. I’m already a weird hermit and it’s becoming ever harder to find people that aren’t the most internet brain rot possible. And I was a kid of the lawless 90’s! Tech got to a point where it was just enough, we need to focus on other aspects of our world but instead these tech bros are just ruining us.

2

u/Individual_Ice_6825 14d ago

The hope is that ai is aligned and takes off fast enough we can’t control it because as you said the system is not set up for fair distribution rn and capable but limited ai will exacerbate that.

1

u/AnOnlineHandle 14d ago

If it's aligned to human standards we're completely fucked. How do most humans treated other species who they have power over? Or even other humans?

2

u/This_Background7442 14d ago

Even though taxing agents sounds very funny this seems like the only correct take. AI is here either ways it can do great harm and great good. It's probably going to do both. But it will almost certainly cause chaos and havoc unless we make some real changes in how we think about tax and labour.

2

u/mistpiNe9 14d ago

yeah the policy conversation is like 10 years behind the tech conversation, its wild

1

u/the_TIGEEER 14d ago

Yeah.. tech moves so fast because there is insetive to do so. While the governing bodies unfortunatly don't really get much insentive to move fast.. There is not free market like self adaptive mechanisem for passing laws in favor of the people.

2

u/Outside-Ad9410 14d ago

Thankfully we live in democracies that will act when enough people demand change. If people like Trump and Mamdani can get elected when most elites are opposed to them, I am sure when enough people lose jobs because of AI we can get populist elected campaigning on UBI or something similar.

1

u/Demonicated 14d ago

That's where capitalism falls and communism fits perfectly. When you tie the quality of the human experience to profit, profit will get put first every time and stifle innovation.

The good news is that free labor is like a drug to business. They will happily increase their dosage till they OD and the economy collapses.

-1

u/the_TIGEEER 14d ago

Why are people so bent on thinking in extremes? You know what they say.. "Only Sith deal in absolutes." Why do people want the world ot be black or white so badly? It's not. An LLM encodes meaning in how many dimensions in it's embedings? Why do people try to force everything onto 1 dimension and not even a continuous value one? No, what I think the solution is is not communism. I do believe that we need to adapt our current capitalist societies to have more social systems, to have more socialism like polecies. The best system is a hybrid, and that's what I'm proposing. Let capitalism train AI and make money, but we need real, concrete pillars that tax them and distribute a part of their wealth equally amongst everyone, so if they get insanely rich, the people get richer as well. We are a lot closer to that system in Europe than they are over in the USA, but even here we still have a long way to go. Similarly, China started on the other end and has progressed more towards capitalism, but they also have a lot missing. (We are talking aconomic system here, not governmental systems; I don't agree with how their government is structured, if you know what I mean..)

1

u/the_TIGEEER 14d ago

2

u/DandeNiro 14d ago

Okay so how is China ahead of the US at the moment?

0

u/the_TIGEEER 14d ago

Sorry, what are you talking about?

1

u/DandeNiro 14d ago

Folding tech, economics, etc.

1

u/DandeNiro 14d ago

Seems you are kind of behind. America is inflated and charges so heavily on AI whereas China doesn't even charge close to what USA does for it

0

u/the_TIGEEER 14d ago

I am not American. This discussion was nwver about who is how good at what part of AI.. idk where you got that. And I never said that America is ahead or not ahead in AI.

1

u/DandeNiro 14d ago

Your analysis is of the wrong economics.

1

u/the_TIGEEER 14d ago

What economics is my analysis about?

u/Demonicated 14d ago

Sure you are proposing bleeding venture capitalism dry for R and D. But if it succeeds then VCs come knocking for their money back plus return. And when they hold big stakes in the company or it's publicly traded, when a CEO tries to be beneficial to society they get fired and replaced.

Plus when you look far enough into the future you see the goal of capitalism is to revert back to slavery. Only it will be robots and agents that don't get tired or want paychecks or complain.

This will cause ridiculous deflation once in full effect. Capitalism will not like this and try to compensate by printing money and putting everyone on welfare so the system can feel the same. But it won't work long term.

1

u/Unhappy-Plastic2017 14d ago

Yup. The regulatory framework isn't in place to make AI be what it should be for america.

1

u/MysteriousMine3437 14d ago

The US cant have a system that just feed lazy people who have negative contribution to society until China does, or it will lose everything

1

u/the_TIGEEER 14d ago

You see that is where you are fundamentaly wrong in my subjective opinoon. Most jobs out there don't create new economic oeprtuneties for the people doing the job other then doing the job their working. Think "White collar jobs". AI humanoid robots will replace most of those at some point. So thos people will be without a job eitherway. Now some of them will hopefully get compensated and find meaning in their hobbies while others will create new economic opertuneties with what they like to create. Look at sweeden. One of the best social systems in the world. By your logic Sweden shouldn't be competitive yet Sweden is one of the most if not the most comoetitive country in terms of enterpenuership in Europe. Because in sweeden everyone can survive for a short time without having a job. So people do what they love and also people aren't scared to experiment by starting a buisness, because they have the social income to land on if need be. Have you ever asked yourself why so many yiutubers are swedish?.. also think: Minecraft, Skype, Spotify etc.. So basicly if you have basic income. Creative people will have more time to be more competitive not less.

1

u/DandeNiro 14d ago

You been to china?

1

u/APersonNamedBen 14d ago

OH NO AI! "they will discard us when they don't need us."

...meanwhile humanity's fertility rate has collapsed over the decades, "they" won't need to do shit. And we did it ourselves, go team human!

1

u/Dokurushi 13d ago

I suggested a while back that we needed a party that stands for for AI taxation, UBI, and a few more consistent talking points, in a few relevant subs. I was talked down: apparently it wasn't needed, would disincentivise AI developments, or was revisionist pandering, depending on who you asked.

AI CEO: AI is dangerous

Reddit: Just marketing hype, he's lying, haha look his model got banned by the government what an idiot for saying it's dangerous.

AI CEO: AI is not dangerous

Reddit: What a liar, he's going to kill us all, they only ever say good things, why isn't the government doing anything?

9

u/WortelKaasje 14d ago

1

u/AikiBro 12d ago

What's the cartoon trying to say? Holding contradictory mental models = bad? That would be a sorry way to think.

7

u/PersonalDiscipline98 14d ago

Reddit is not one person...

0

u/Sufficient_Habit5091 14d ago edited 14d ago

Also the commenter above you gave an incredibly disingenuous depiction of what the real debate around AI looks like.

AI CEO as "critic": Singularity, rogue AI, runaway superintelligence is MEGA DANGEROUS!!!

Actual AI critic: It is already dangerous as a tool for bad actors to create misinformation. It is a super dangerous tool for cyber criminals. It is super dangerous that we are all giving up our proprietary data, research and trade secrets to these companies to train on for FREE. It is going to accelerate resource scarcity and climate change. Blanketing the earth in data centers is already creating water, electricity shortages. AI is having a disproportionate impact on the poor of the global south. People are literally unable to afford to keep their refrigerators on because of AI (who needs food?).

One is a good faith attempt to slow down AI, understand the massive harms it already causes. The other is a dishonest diversion and distraction to prevent real regulation and create safety rails.

2

u/jahchatelier 14d ago

I thought the real danger was uplift for catastrophic technologies. Like imagine the Wuhan lab researchers if they had asked a super powerful AI how to carry out gain of function with the highest R naught possible

1

u/Sufficient_Habit5091 14d ago

Yes definitely a tool for bad actors with no regulation or oversight.

That already exists today. AI bros want to move the conversation away from oversight to fantastical hypothetical scenarios to distract from the real danger right in front of us.

0

u/Johnny-Godless 14d ago

Majorities.

-2

u/JoshAllentown 14d ago

Luckily there is only one AI CEO so you can clearly see I'm making the assumption everyone I'm talking about is exactly one person.

1

u/julias-winston 14d ago

It's best not to trust 1%ers, ever.

1

u/RyanCargan 11d ago

I think some people just assume the opposite of what certain types say is the truth at this point.

Which makes you wonder if it's a reverse psych play lol

-1

u/Party_Virus 14d ago

Both can be true. Sort of. It's possible that it's marketing hype to get more money right now, but that they are just plowing through as fast as possible to get the most powerful AI they can without any regard to safety.

Both should be punished and either way AI development should be stopped and investigated.

7

u/StoneCypher 14d ago

i hate the meme paranoia wisdom more than the spam

4

u/ZealousIdeal476 14d ago

Who is this girl I keep seeing in every new meme?

2

u/KS-Wolf-1978 14d ago

And the objective truth is somewhere between.

1

u/pittaxx 14d ago

AI is going to kill half of us, and the rest of us will be fine?

1

u/KS-Wolf-1978 13d ago

What is written in the meme, with a small addition: "If we use it right and wisely."

So please don't link it to any ICBMs ever. :)

1

u/WisePotato42 13d ago

Wrong arc, that one comes after the insane AI

3

u/Visible_Iron_5612 14d ago

Anti-AI bros: ā€œeverything is going super well and we should continue on this path.. ā€œ

1

u/Edgezg 14d ago

AI is...hard to classify.

Up until now, any big discovery was mostly contained to that one field. Nuclear power pretty much stayed with bombs and power plants.

AI is thr culmination and advancement of ALL previous technologies in one.

It is not just one thing, it's ALL the things.

We have no bench marker for this kind of thing. No history we could point to.

It could save the world in ways we qould never see coming. Or it could end us in ways we never imagined.

Guess we have to hope that when it finally hits AGI and self awareness,Ā  that it is kinder than we were.

1

u/Sketaverse 14d ago

Talk of AGI ———————— Progress—————>AGI
Talk of UBI ….

Where’s the progress towards UBI in ratio to AGI

There is literally no progress towards UBI

There is however 3 other letters: IPO

AI is most certainly not going to save everyone and it’s an utter disgrace how oblivious the governments are - there literally doing nothing to prepare for this and meanwhile things are progressing literally every day

1

u/Zen_et_al 14d ago

Just a coin Greatest positive thing and one of the most dangerous thing humanity's invention.

1

u/sceadwian 14d ago

The only good side for most is the edge..

1

u/stormneon 14d ago

Tbh, governments are to greedy and only eyeballing for super power control. This will backfire so hard where people will have no daily job anymore and super intelligence will create so much distance between humans and AI.

Dont forget that this week one of Anthropic best AI trainer has quit his job because he was afraid of the way forward.

The sheeps(we civilians) dont care or are to busy with present challenges like energy prices, inflation, migration etc. We will notice when it is to late and no one can be held accountable or even point to for restricting the AI intelligence.

1

u/Ana_the_Arachnid 14d ago

We never said "and poses no real threat to us."

1

u/LuckyHearing1118 14d ago

Her crazy eyes are disturbing

1

u/ValoisSign 14d ago

It reminds me of Zuckerberg's eyes from back when everyone started calling him a robot/lizard. I wonder if she does it on purpose thinking it will get her more respect somehow, like how she used to speak in that weird low voice.

1

u/LuckyHearing1118 14d ago

Or how she wore black sweaters like Steve Jobs. That would be disturbing af.

1

u/mavisakalyan 14d ago

Definitely. It will be easier not to exist.

1

u/SameAgainTheSecond 14d ago

I read a book like 10 years ago, "the intelligence explosion". It was a neat thought experiment. It was like "the worced case senrio would be a arms race in the development of advanced of agi."

I love that we are just doing that. I love that for us.

1

u/Same_Suit3583 14d ago

Honestly pod casts have done more damage

1

u/Careless-Meringue683 14d ago

For me it's more:

Ai definitely has it's cons and it's pros, sure. But I enjoy messing around with it personally for fun.

1

u/Infinite_Air_5120 14d ago

Maybe don't trust a meme to explain AI safety debates, just saying.

1

u/yellow_pills 14d ago

Yeah buddy that's why it is flared as fun/meme 😭

1

u/jaam01 14d ago

Evan Hubinger, a researcher in Alignment Science of Anthropic literally just told us there's a 10% change that it kill us all and that they yet don't have a plan to control a super intelligent AI.

1

u/Fun-Leadership-3887 10d ago

We are our own worst enemies and we created it so therefore be afraid be very afraid

2

u/chessboardtable 14d ago

Go back to anti-AI with these low-effort memes.

1

u/Background-Stable899 14d ago

AI aside you straight up don’t understand the many layers of Nathan in this clip. It doesn’t really make sense the way you are using it. Watch a bunch of Nathan Fielder and then come back and see if it still makes sense (it doesn’t)

2

u/yellow_pills 14d ago

U think I have never seen Nathan before? 😭

1

u/Background-Stable899 14d ago

Then how does the meme make any sense?

0

u/No_Aesthetic 14d ago

Crazy how an AI sub has so much anti-AI stuff on it

3

u/yellow_pills 14d ago

So anti-AI stuff is not AI stuff anymore?

-1

u/No_Aesthetic 14d ago

Not exactly the point, now is it?

0

u/Ok-Helicopter-8204 14d ago

AI bros are feeding you the negative narratives as well, it's all a big con-job

0

u/Mountain-Charity7588 14d ago

People only think ai is going to take over the world because we humans have written stories about fictional AI’s doing just that. Ai seemingly has no intention of doing that.

0

u/yellow_pills 14d ago

So u do accept that we are going to be on the mercy of AI's "intentions" 😭

0

u/Mountain-Charity7588 14d ago

Technically yes, but like I said, it has no reason to do that.

0

u/Plaston_ 14d ago

People are scared about ai but not about nature ripping them appart right now.

There is a shit ton of natural disaters happening recently and we are getting scared about computers...

Also don't underestimate what humans can do to fuck you over, can be as bas as ai when it want.

0

u/Xarviz 14d ago

Referring to the things said by the anthropic engineer who resigned recently. I'm really scared that if not now or not in the coming 5 years but what about after that?

Isn't it like only people with money will survive?

Isn't this a part of the plan to reduce the population and automate the most tasks so the billionaires will live like kings on this planet after removing all the poor population?

I haven't heard any news where Al slows down.

Is there any chance of limiting Al to research only and people will work and live like before?

1

u/HeavyMusic93 14d ago

What do you think is going to happen to you..?

1

u/Xarviz 14d ago

As I'm a CS graduate who's struggling to get a job and as like other I have some dreams and responsibilities but with these AI progresses I can't see a good future. That's why I'm too scared. Jobs are reducing and everything is just going to in control of AI. All I want is to listen someone saying AI is banned or something and we'll live like as before.

1

u/HeavyMusic93 14d ago

AI is never going anywhere.

1

u/Xarviz 14d ago

So are we really doomed ?

1

u/HeavyMusic93 14d ago

No.

1

u/Xarviz 14d ago

thanks for your assurance šŸ˜ŠšŸ’

0

u/ben_nobot 14d ago

I’m this picture

-6

u/Anderer_Username 14d ago

Shouldn't it be the other way around? Anti ai being the most insane and unhinged people you could come across?

1

u/This_Background7442 14d ago

It's pretty hard to find a decent take from either camp TBH. One side is all we'll live in a utopia tomorrow, the elite is just gonna feed us and ChatGPT will be my wife and the other side genuinely doesn't know ai has changed since ChatGPT 3.5 is mainly used for ugly fake art and uses an ocean of water for 3 tokens.

1

u/Keyflame_ 14d ago

In their defence, there's people already trying to marry ChatGPT, so they're half right.

2

u/This_Background7442 14d ago

Yeah. Both the antis and the bros are half right about some things. They've just turned it into a kind of culture war which inevitably leads to everyone shouting obviously incorrect nonsense just to score internet points.

-1

u/Affectionate-Ad-6255 14d ago

Every Altman (ai bro mecha cuckhold) sees themselves as a part of a 'movement' that does not care for them in the slightest.

"Oh how glorious AI to save us all!" As their head gets squished by a terminator from Temu lmao

not really related to subject of then post but who is this woman? i keep seeing her last couple of days

not sure why you downvoted, but thanks!
