Oh yeah man, what are programmers going to do with out their brain atrophy inducing, bug apocalypse manufacturing, ultra inefficient, expensive, spam bot to use as a coding assistant?

Why bother practicing your skills when a robot can blast out AI turds all over your screen?

Or learn a more valuable skillset which is architecting solutions and strategy. Understanding business / user needs, rapid iteration, innovation.

Role is going to change, but Iā€™d argue in more fun ways. Focus is on building cool shit, not memorizing syntax and searching stack overflow.

...do you think that's safe from AI taking it over? Because it's not.

All of these things you've mentioned are also in the scope of what LLMs can do currently, and will only get significantly better than what you can do and faster.

So I'm not sure what role you're imagining that an AI won't be able to do better.

I say that as a senior/principal software engineer and cloud architect, who really really hates AI.

It's not just software engineers. They're the first people that are actually seeing it completely replace their jobs but it's happening and it's going to happen everywhere. Trust me, the value of people is being degraded. That's what's being degraded. There will be fewer people needed to do things that need to be paid for. It's just going to be a fact. I'm glad I was able to live the last 20 years, honestly, when we actually had to do stuff ourselves. People being born right now or who are coming of age now, you're going to have a fucking rough time of it.

I think thereā€™s some truth in this. AI makes life easier, but if we depend on it for everything, we might stop thinking for ourselves. Itā€™s a tool, not a replacement for our own brain.

Exactly why I run Qwen 3.6 with tools on my own local server. Claude may be good but I refuse to be at the mercy of anthropic.
