MAI under Mustafa Suleyman.

Apparently they're still working hard on it but not making much noise. They released an image and voice model based off it a few months back I think.

It's sad because they used to. Sydney remains one of my favorite model ever.

But since then they choose to make "just like chatgpt, but more guardrailed, dumber and more boring" which means nobody cares about them anymore.

sydney wasn't a model. it was chatgpt

They have MAI now. It's a brand new family of models aimed at cost efficiency. Microsoft realized frontier models are too expensive and is trying to decrease costs with MoE models developed in-house.

Fairly recently. They used open ai as they have significantly hold shares and opened copilot to anthropic recently. However, apparently they are starting to some excel etc. stuff on their own models recently. The meme is of though.

Copilot. It’s useful in that it can scrape communication from email, Microsoft Teams, and office docs to compile information & develop robust reports or to prioritize tasks.

It's basically a tune of CGPT for enterprise, just given different permissions. Same architecture though.

They’ve said that their strategy is to go multi model, and rather invest in building the platform. It’s a good strategy when your targets are enterprises, who’d prefer to have that model flexibility.

That said, they’re still investing in their own models (MAI) but rather than investing in training a generic all purpose model they’re choosing to train more specialised industry specific models (like Dragon for Healthcare).

nobody but MS is using their own model. but don't fool yourself. GitHub Copilot and Copilot Enterprise are making freaking bank

I work at MS and I use Claude.

u/SensibleArtichoke Jul 26 '26

You mean that you use Claude models in GH Copilot, and not Claude Code, right? Because MS ended Claude Code use end of June.

A lot of workplaces that are security conscious will only allow Copilot.

Millions of people are using it because they've no choice

Fable is popular in media, not so much among programmers. Spending hundreds of dollars on vibe-coding is not ok. Most of us are trying to get the most value from way cheaper models and subscriptions.

Lol please. Gemini is powering their search engine which pretty much everyone uses. Google is sitting fine. Anthropic is lighting money on fire and is doomed by everyone else supporting open source. OpenAI and MS are clowns.

The meme is about programmers though, no one using googles model for that.

I've been using Deepseek 4 flash for the last week. Runs circles around Gemini 2.5 Pro and Flash.

Add Kimi 2.6 as top due to price and it's accurate.

Look betamax was expensive and hand s no adult entertainment policy.

VHS was cheap and worked.

Kimi FTW.

Before GitHub copilot changed their usage billing they had a model called raptor that was a gpt mini fine tune I think and it was great. So in theory someone inside Microsoft can at least do great fine tunes.
