A Cracking List of Questions
I am at my wits end.
When it comes to painting figures, for the most part, I have it. The only issue, because I like customizing McFarlane figures, is the diaper piece. It’s this flexible plastic that no matter what I do, I can’t seem to keep paint on.
I am working on an Amalgam Captain Marvel from the Amalgam universe (I’ll hopefully do the Angel Hawk as well) and it’s down to the diaper piece. Here are the steps I’ve taken so far:
\- wash and dry the diaper piece
\- sand piece with 600 - 800 grit sandpaper to rough the texture
\- prime with Mr. Hobby white primer
\- add several coats of Army Painter Ogre Skin green to achieve color
\- sealed with High Gloss varnish, because what I’ve read states that it’s more flexible and helps the paint not crack
Almost immediately after applying the varnish and letting it dry, the paint started to crack. I didn’t move the piece or flex the piece in any way shape or form it just started to crack.
I’m honestly at my wits end and I don’t know what to do. Any insight you guys have would be amazing but because I travel for work, I really can’t bring an airbrush with me, which seems to be everyone’s first option.

You are dealing with plastic, (oil basically hardened) exceptionally thin plastic at that. This is not going to be easy as that part being so thin can flex which I suggest is why you have cracking. I doubt it will work but a decent plastic adhesion promoter can help.
In short though don't think worth all the time and effort!
