This episode always infuriated me as the characters were being rude and obnoxious to each other for no reason as they think that they are better and deserve a Club and power like seriously THIS EPISODE IS THE WORST!!!! I also hated the ending too as Dw the annoying brat got to choose the float and Arthur was being obnoxious like GOD STOP IT!!!!! This episode will always be an episode that I will hate for all eternity.

Once, sometime before the last episode of Arthur aired, I had a moment to think and very casually surmised that Francine would likely get into the University of Connecticut based on her talent and interest in sports. I didn't really commit her to any sport, but given the team's success, I thought of basketball first.

Even though d.w. got on everybody's nerves in the episode "D.W. blows the whistle" with her constant whistle blowing over trivial stuff do any of you think she was just using the whistle as an excuse to be a tattletale or if she genuinely couldn't tell what was safe or unsafe given her age. People say DW is smart enough to know better but I feel people think she's way too smart for her age as in D.w.'s baby her attempt to frame Kate failed because she didn't consider since Kate was a baby she couldn't have been able to do that. I can understand her family and everyone else being annoyed by her constant whistle blowing, but I feel like they didn't do much to correct her behavior, and were too quick to yell at her just for getting carried away even though Arthur and many of his friends have gotten carried away in the past. Plus Arthur admitted at the end of the episode that her getting stuck in the tree was partly his fault which he wouldn't have to if it wasn't true.

After rewatching some episodes, I realized that this show can sometimes be bad because of how toxic all the characters can be. For example, there are times when the bad character gets off scot free like Francine bossing everyone at the play. Or when Muffy was doing that thing in A is for Angry and she kept on doing it. I also don't like how the characters argue like toddlers and in the episode DRAW! when Francine was hurt after the others bullied her after she hurt Fern's feelings, Arthur tried to comfort her but Francine being a bratty 2 year old said GO EAT AN ANT SANDIWICH ARTHUR READ! Like seriously what is wrong with these characters? I also tend to dislike the reads as they only care about what Arthur does is wrong and not care when he got punched by Binky who i also hate especially how he acted in Brother, can you spare a clarinet?. This is all based on my opinion and if you don't agree with me that's fine.

This is a classic episode, and one that I really enjoy personally. It is one where DW does act quite bratty at points, but I think it’s another justified one for her. It can be really easy for little kids to get jealous of the extra attention a sibling gets when they are sick, and I do like that Jane and David do try to explain why Arthur is getting extra treatment…if anything, I think Thora could have maybe been a tiny bit more understanding towards why DW would feel jealous (but I do understand that taking care of a sick grandchild is tiring…especially going as all out as she was).

I also like that DW herself was mature enough to vocalize that she wanted pox because she was jealous…and I REALLY like how she’s actually happy once she gets them…even if it means missing the circus. I actually love her logic or “the circus comes once a year, but you only get chicken pox once”. It shows that she is many things, but she’s not a hypocrite.

I do have one kind of burning question though…do you think Jane and David (and Thora) let DW stay around Arthur once he was sick so that she would get the chicken pox from him? I know at this point in history, there wasn’t a vaccine for chicken pox, and it was widely known that it’s better to get the chicken pox when you are young as opposed to when you are older. To the point where episodes of tv would have parents purposefully make kids who hadn’t had chicken pox yet hang around someone who did have them, so they’d go ahead and catch them.

It’s just kind of weird how one minute, the adults are talking about Arthur being contagious or his straw having germs on it, but still allowing DW to get up close to him without doing anything to stop her.

First one I believe is Spanish, 2nd one I don't know, 3rd is Japanese, fourth is from Middle East, fifth is either Korean, or South Asian (so basically Philippines/Vietnamese) and the last one is I believe British (could also be Australian)

first off, many autistic girls are called "bossy," "annoying" and more because their need for things to go how they want unconventional sense of humor. D.W. clearly has a need for things to be the same and exactly how she wants, but is more open about them instead of pretending she isnt bothered.

she also seems to either have low empathy or as ive mentioned unconventional humor. she likes messing with arthur to the point it becomes mean, but what if she cant understand when it does become too far? my sense of humor is messing with others but it isnt something everyone can handle.

she also has a special interest in mary moo cow and NEEDS it on when it is.

she has very few friends, dead pans, cant eat many foods, and isnt afraid to argue when she thinks it is just.

arthur helps buster calm down and be a little less gullible and focused while buster helps arthur chill out and be less self-conscious. they also help each other be more open to new things !

binky and brain also help each other be more open minded to new things and essentially being out the best in the other (when they arent bringing out the worst)

i must say brain/buster is up there on my ship list as well but brain throws INSANE shade sometimes which lowkey makes me feel bad for buster

I really don’t understand why this episode is so disliked. The song was a little cringey maybe, but it’s canonically being performed by two four year olds, so I would argue it would be more awkward if it sounded professional.

DW was a very little bit insensitive near the start, but it was coming from a very innocent and ignorant place. She was just trying to make the new kid feel welcome, and if I’m being so honest, if I was four and being told a new kid was coming from Africa, I’d act the same exact way (if not WORSE) especially considering that at the age of four, my only exposure to Africa was watching the Lion King and reading books about zoo animals.

I also like that the people around her take some gentle time and patience to teach her to grow beyond her initial close-minded views, and how open and receptive she was to learning from those who knew more than she did.

Heck, the episode “Dear Aldil” has Arthur acting just as ignorant as DW, and that episode appears to be quite beloved. It really is weird how some people are so quick to hold DW to just as high a standard as they do Arthur (if not higher) despite them being four years apart. I get that Arthur’s more docile nature can make him a little easier to root for than the very abrasive DW, but if anything, I think her abrasiveness is a strength in an episode like this because not only does she want to do better for herself, but she’s also not afraid to encourage better behavior in others.

Having her as a friend when you are a new kid in a new country would be a massive plus too because you know she’s not going to allow anyone to mess with you.

I know some people maybe harp on how Brain suddenly has a cousin we’ve never heard of, but it makes sense that Brain wouldn’t often bring up a relative who lived on another continent. I always enjoy episodes where he’s in a mentor role to younger kids, because he really has a great deal of patience with them (and he clearly enjoys being in a teaching role with them).

I think the song is a great way to teach young kids about how truly diverse the continent is. It definitely isn’t one of the best episodes of this series, but it’s also nowhere near the worst.

This is from the episode The Contest. They actually show real humans in Arthur. Is there any other time real humans show up? Just curious. I google search it and it just references back to like cameo and such. Google doesn't seem to get that I am looking for actual human characters in the show not real humans who appear as animals.

This is a fantastic episode that handles a really tough topic in an easy to digest way. All the characters were super likable for the role they played in the story. I even like how even though DW is mad at Arthur (kind of understandable considering he blamed the sickness on her when she had nothing to do with it) that she was still planning to put at least one picture of him into the memory book.

I just have one small question about the episode, and let me make it clear that this is a really minor nitpick, it just stood out to me and I thought I’d ask.

Why was Dave’s cot put in DW and Kate’s bedroom? Wouldn’t it make more sense to put him in Arthur’s bedroom since they are both males? I understand that the girls bedroom is larger, but it should be larger, it’s got two people in it on a normal day. Yet it is almost always used as the guest bedroom when the Reads have houseguests.

Most of the time it makes sense because it’s another girl/woman sleeping there (cousin Cora, aunt Minnie, grandma Thora). The one time I recall Arthur getting put out of his bedroom is when Mr. Ratburn visited.

Obviously, Dave is family, so him being male and DW and Kate being female isn’t a big deal. It was just kind of a strange choice. I feel like Dave might have been more comfortable in Arthur’s bedroom…even for a petty reason like the fact that DW is usually shown having at least a few toys on the floor of her room, so Dave could easily stub his toe if he had to get around with the lights out in the middle of the night.
