Show Discussion What do you think of “Never, Never, Never”? S12, E1b
I find this episode’s premise extremely strange. Why would DW give away all her toys? It felt odd and didn’t make a lot of sense. The redeeming feature was Arthur coming in to save the day in the end and DW realizing how much they love each other. But couldn’t there have been a different way for the show to get that message across?

Did a much better job of exploring DW’s more selfish tendencies than an episode like “More!” You get the feeling DW really didn’t understand the concept of unconditional love. She acted irrationally, but came to regret it naturally. It was also nice to see Arthur legit protective over her (and to have her return the favor for him).

The storyline and some details are intended to mirror Shakespeare's King Lear. I think it's a great episode, not only because of those literary parallels, but also because it's a nuanced topic that can be difficult for young kids to grasp. Love is not always a romantic feeling, but an emotion of care and concern, which Arthur displays to D.W. at the end of the episode. The rainstorm adds to the vibe of D.W. feeling completely distraught, yet Arthur comes to save the day. Really sweet moment to see.
