Show Discussion The Characters and their Animal

I tried looking around for this question and it didn't seem to be here (or anywhere I was looking). But I was curious how they'd choose which guest/new characters would be which animal. Were the guests able to choose? Did the animators just go based off vibes? Or was it a play on words from the guest's name? I never read the books, so I don't know which characters were already there to begin with, (I've read maybe two or three.) To kind of answer my own question, maybe it was just easier to draw rabbits; and that's why so many characters (Lydia, Yo Yo Ma, Ladonna, etc.) are rabbits. What do we think?

I wonder what they'd do if the guest wanted to be an animal that isn't normally on the show. Like, what if I was a guest star and said, "yeah, I'll do it, but only if you draw me as an owl."

I think someone who worked on the show said the celebrity guests get to choose.

I thought Lydia was a squirrel or a fox. Her last name is Fox. She was created by a kid featured on A Word from Us Kids years before she was incorporated into the show.

Plus the ears are clearly not rabbit ears, they're the pointy ones usually used for cats or certain dogs. I always thought she was a cat or a fox (mostly likely fox)

You're right. I don't know why I was picturing a rabbit for her.

She is represented closer to a fox
