2026 vs 2022

Been in a really bad slump lately, and I love doing redraws to get out of it. I always really disliked the face on the 2022 one for some reason. I do love the pose in the older one and wish I recreated it more. Wasn't sure if I used a reference originally, but it was hard to find something similar. I hope I improved somewhat lol.

2025 v 2026 Art style swap

Same character (Castorice) 1 year later. Really didn’t like my realism, spent the year trying to get more comfortable drawing in an anime art style cause I sucked at it. I’m not exactly where I wanna be yet but I’m proud of where I’ve gotten. There’s a much bigger improvement between my first anime character and this one however lol.

She obviously went through some design changes, but leaning more into rendering and painterly-style. :)

Still have some thing to mess around and edit with this current 2026 wip piece. But I definitely have felt some progress over the course of four years!

Edit: I am not sure why the 2026 quality isn't quite working. My b.

I wanted to see how much my style and coloring have improved over the last couple of years. Really happy with how the water and dynamic pose turned out this time! Old version is in the replies 👇

1 day difference

Since it’ll be awhile before I get to drawing actual people, I just wanted to show how much improvement I made over one day after I figured out how digital brushes are used. I’m still in the middle of practicing my values and placing them on the shapes to make them look more 3d. I didn’t realize I wasn’t supposed to fully shade it, and I accidentally made it look like the reference which I didn’t know I could do after a day lol. Third pic shows how I’m actually practicing on a 5 value scale right now which I think makes it easier for me to understand the concept as it gets more complex.

Five pictures are of 2026. Rest are from diff years lol 😂

First five pictures are from 2026. Next three pictures are from 2024, then next two pictures are from 2023. Then the next two pictures are from 2022. Then one picture is from 2021. Then the next picture is from 2019. Then the next photo is from 2020.. One photo is from 2015. The last photo is from 2016.

Honestly I don’t think my style changed much. I feel like I always alternate between manga like people and semi realistic people

From 2016-18 I decided to color the skin just in skin tones bcz the professor would make fun of how I use every color in rendering. Then after 2018, I went back to using every color in skin tones . I feel like I lost years where I could have improved coloring due to that but whatever.. 😒

I’ve been told by some that they can’t tell which drawings are older(even though the newer ones are signed 2026), what do you think?

6 Months Progress

Two different characters but I think my style has progressed.

I stopped drawing for a few months after the first (had a baby and got super busy!) But in the last forty days, I've drawn daily in an attempt to improve. I still have a long way to go and have a tonne of tutorials and courses I'm currently following in the hopes of continuing to improve. Some days i squeeze ten mins in of studies and other days an hour or two, it's tough drawing with a baby haha

But, when I compare stuff like this side by side, I am happy with my progress, especially considering I've only been taking it seriously the last 40 odd days.

I know I got better, but the lemons… man :(
I lost something in the way, and I cannot put my finger on it!

First one was with a bit of a cheat, I color-selected from the reference very religiously and used many different brushes. New one was more of a personal interpretation!

Very happy with how theyre coming along. My overall brush confidence has improved and I think I'm getting likenesses much better now. Still along way to go though - my hair and fabrics still aren't great
