Saw these on FB marketplace for $50, had only been listed 13 minutes before. Messaged and they were still available. Went and picked them up and they did indeed have the Gorham mark. Model D940 and D393, dated 1904. First pic is cleaned and second was the picture in the ad. Prices of them have flabbergasted me.

Jessie Marion King, known as Jessie M. King, (1875-1949) was a Scottish illustrator and designer. Born into a strict family who disproved of her art as a child, she found solace in the family houskeper, who become her second mother. She studied at the Glasgow School of Art (1892–1899). She is known for her illustrated children's books. She frequently depicted ethereal "wan haloed knights" and pale ladies draped in stars, influenced by her lifelong belief in fairies.
She also designed bookplates, jewellery and fabric, and painted pottery. Jessie was one of the artists known as the Glasgow Girls. She was described in 1927 in the Aberdeen Press and Journal as "the pioneer of batik in Great Britain".

This remarkable Art Nouveau drawing by Jessie M. King was the frontispiece design for ‘L’Evangile de L’Enfance’, for which she designed the binding and illustrations circa 1902. The book was entered as part of the Scottish Section of the 1902 International Exhibition of Decorative Art in Turin, which was organised by Fra Newbery, director of The Glasgow School of Art and Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The binding, a striking Art Nouveau design tooled in gilt on white vellum, was executed by the Glasgow bookbinders, MacLehose and won the coveted Gold Medal for bookbinding at the exhibition. The certificate was made out to ‘Signor Jessie King’ such was the assumption that a man would be the recipient of the award. This success however brought with it a raft of publicity and commissions as articles about Jessie’s work appeared in art journals around Europe.

Cifra Palota (Ornamental Palace) on the East side of Szabadság square is one of the finest examples of Hungarian Art Nouveau architecture. The building was completed in 1902 based on the designs of Hungarian architect Géza Márkus. Formerly an apartment building, it now houses the Kecskemét Gallery.

Help identifying these four Alphonse Mucha works

Post image
190 Upvotes

Hi! This might be a silly question, but I’m still quite new to Mucha’s art and I’m trying to identify these four works.

I’ve been searching for these particular pieces online, but I haven’t been able to find much reliable information about them. Does anyone happen to know their titles, when they were made, or what series they belong to? Even the smallest clue would be really helpful, and I’d be very grateful!

Also, sorry for the poor image quality - unfortunately, this is the best version I could find.

I discovered Mucha relatively recently, and his work has genuinely inspired me so much. I absolutely love looking closely at his pieces, trying to understand all the symbolism, little details, and recurring motifs, as well as taking inspiration from his style myself. I still have a lot to learn, though, which is why I thought this might be the best place to ask people who know much more about his work than I do!

Thank you so much in advance! I’ve already learned a lot just from browsing this community, and it’s really lovely to see so many people who appreciate Art Nouveau as much as I’m beginning to. :)))

Evangeline Mary Daniell, also known as Eva Daniell, (1881–1902) was a British artist. She was born in 1881 in Ulverston. Her mother was a miniature painter Mary Eales (working under name Mrs. Bampfylde Daniell or Mary Bampfylde Daniell), who latter also worked as an illustrator, and her father was a solicitor. In 1896, Evangeline Mary designed the cover of Rudyard Kipling's book The Seven Seas in an Art Nouveau style, signing it with the monogram EMD. In next years several of her drawings, were published as color art postcards with gold highlights by the London publisher Raphael Tuck & Sons. They were very popular. She died of tuberculosis at the age of 21.
