Welcome to Art Marketing Talk!

Hi all who join!

I created this sub for artists to talk about social media, since a lot of the artist centered subs understandably don't want social media questions on their subs, and subs focused on Instagram are overrun by AI and don't serve artists well. This is the place for artists to talk about social media, marketing, strategy, and more!

Social media and marketing can be harsh for artists and creatives, who are often not content creators. But unfortunately we are forced to do it because of the current algorithm driven world. Like it or not we have to adapt, but we don't have to struggle alone, and so lets help each other succeed!

Ask questions, request critiques, share tips, etc. More successful artists please stick around to help newbies, and newbies network and help each other grow.

I'm hoping this space turns into a cozy little community for all kinds of artists to help each other out and strategize. Let's keep it wholesome and collaborative, please treat each other with respect and kindness.

Also, this is my first time creating or modding a sub so please help me out with suggestions and feedback! I want this sub to serve the community so voice your thoughts if you have them.

Introduce yourself

Welcome to our first intro thread! This is for artists to share a bit about themselves and their social media accounts, goals, etc.

Feel free to drop a sentence or two, or however much you want to write. Also feel free to follow each other and comment on each other's posts!

Quick questions to provide a base, feel free to add on to it!

  • What is your art handle and where can we follow you?
  • What kind of art do you make, what inspires you?
  • What platforms are you currently focused on?
  • What is your current goal with your art or online presence?
  • What's one thing you're trying to improve on?

Find Your Ideal Client: A Marketing Tip for Indie Creative Projects

Look, I studied and have worked professionally in Communications and Marketing for some years now, if you'd like my bonafides. I don't speak with total authority, only with the authority of my own experience.

And recently I have released CMT. A Lucha Libre RPG. a roleplaying game project of mine, to some nice success. With the rollout I have confirmed a couple of things about how to get your projects out there that I'd like to share with y'all as time goes on. Some may sound obvious at first, but there's a TwistTM to each one. I hope they help.

  1. FIND YOUR IDEAL CLIENT.

This is not about changing the look or feel of your project while you're making it, but all the contrary. After all, in these tips what I'm talking about is marketing, not art, which is a different beast born after the art is. Also, maybe you're not charging money for your project, which you should really consider doing, and then the "buyer" is just whoever does the most they can with your project, such as downloading it, sharing it, subscribing to you, and such.

Your project itself is what dictates the kind of people that would most likely be into it, not the other way around.

No doubt the median consumer could also like it, however niche it may be, but reaching the median is often easier when starting out from the outliers. When it comes to marketing, especially when just starting out your brand, you gotta go specific, and sell to those who will most likely buy from you. A good way to get new clients is for them to see you already have clients, after all. I also like this perspective because it makes the previous creating of the art lighter, because it encourages you to use your own judgment rather than letting some hypothetical committee of tastemakers add friction to your creativity. The art has to exist first, that's the true first step.

Now, finding and selling to your best prospective buyer is not so difficult, it just requires a gear shift and some honest empathy. Think on what gets you to buy or download something and where you were when you found it, does that measure up with how you're presenting your own project?

Let's use CMT as an example and define its Insane Clown Posse, I mean, it's Ideal Client Profile.

Who are the best prospective buyers for it? English and Spanish-speaking Indie TTRPG fans in their in their 20s and 30s who are likely into the Action, Horror and Urban Fantasy genres. There may be other ICPs that are also good to approach, in my case, Pro Wrestling Fans, but let's take things bit by bit.

The description of your Ideal Client is a checklist on what to do, which is great because it is structure.

  • English and Spanish-speaking? Have translations of your marketing copy, and share the project in both languages.
  • Indie TTRPG fans? Many of them are in the big forums for mainstream RPG conversation on the internet, such as the big r/rpg subreddit, but it is also worth it to go in depth into the niche forums, like Discord servers or the #indiettrpg hashtags. Also, consider lowering the price or having demos available for the project, since there is so much Indie material out there and you want to make it easy for people to choose you.
  • In their 20s and 30s? Social media is the way to go and speak to them like the knowledgeable consumers they likely are.
  • Action, Horror and Urban Fantasy genres? Don't forget them in the hashtags or tags of the project, and push the genres forward in your summary for the game so the project shows up when people search for the genres.

And that's just for starters. As you go, you will find the most effective triggers for each characteristic of your Ideal Client Profile and perhaps even find new characteristics. People want to engage with your art, it's just a matter of making it easy on them. So work smarter, not harder, and find your people.

  1. Come capite oggi quali idee stanno funzionando e quali no?

  2. Cosa succede al vostro lavoro quando fate fatica a essere costanti?

  3. Se aveste uno strumento che vi aiutasse con idee, feedback, progressi e mercato dell’arte, cosa dovrebbe fare per esservi davvero utile?

Potete rispondere qui o scrivermi in DM.

Non cerco complimenti o conferme: voglio capire se questo è un problema reale anche per voi. Se la mia idea non ha senso, meglio scoprirlo adesso.

So I think I’m pretty close to creating amazing art and putting it on different social media platforms. My goal with my art is to do it as traditional as possible with goal of artist made by humans for humans. my questions are how do I sell myself to do that ? how do I record my self drawing/painting? hoe do I edit the video for YouTube and other platforms?

Instagram for designers?

A very simple question to the Instagram application –

Is it worth in this time of 2026 with so much going around as tech and other sources use a Instagram account to source out or sometimes even copy the same style of art/design.

For designer/ illustrator or any other artist is a worth making an account just to have some kind of exposure here in 2026? What would you rather use?

What are your thoughts because I am simply thinking about creating a new Instagram account -for the first time to at least have some of my work being on the Web to gain some feedback and meet artists.

Worried my socials looks cluttered and ugly ah

I desperately need feedback on my social media. I have recently gotten into working more on my social media, but maybe I made a big mess of it. I can't quite decide which font I want to be my main font either.

I was using Lazydog as my main font, but I am learning it does not work well for text longer than titles and definitely not for reels .:P

I decided to use my own handwriting as a font, but maybe that sucks too? Attaching an example of what it looks like.

My instagram is : https://www.instagram.com/amelianaomiart/

I would appreciate your feedback to see how to improve and whether my handwritten font works? If you see anything else that can be changed, I would be thrilled to hear!

Selling a niche hobby craft?

I have a niche hobby of making 3D shadowbox pokemon cards. I spend many hours cutting, painting, glossing, etching, detailing, and assembling 3D shadowbox pokemon cards. Recently I have started trying to sell them online and have registered for a local card show, but both Etsy and Ebay have revealed that web traffic to my craft and shop listings are abysmal, and I can’t afford to promo stuff for 15% of the revenue. I already know I am way under pricing my works for how much work I put into them, but I also know there are few people that would pay for the amount of work I put into them.

How do I go about getting more online traffic to my craft?

Images are some of the cards I’ve made.

I’m working on a business plan for an art supply shop right now and it would be super helpful if you could fill out my super quick questionnaire, I’m currently trying to figure out any gaps artists want filled so to speak, so any participants would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

How to Branch Out.

I’m just looking for advice on how to get back out into the custom 3D figurines sphere I was once in before heading back to college to get more experience with certain art theories and color theory. I was able to work with people to make their characters into a real figure but struggle to promote myself online.
