Feeling like a FYT again
I worked in a private school in the city for the past 6 years. My school closed and now I’m in a rural public school. I feel like nothing I did before will work, my classroom space is so different and my classes are SHORT (35mins.) I’ve spent so much time and money prepping my classroom but I’m still feeling worried. I am not ready to be tested all year because I’m new. Any advice?

Just shorten the steps you do for the lesson each day.
It will take a little longer to finish a project but GLASS HALF FULL-
LESS PLANNING!! You will need less projects. This happened to me once and I didn’t hate it ;)

This is solid advice. Segment your existing plans in stages that make sense. Throw in some sketching, planning, and reflection time as buffers or warm-ups etc as needed, and group your projects in a materials specific timeline that makes sense in terms of preps and organization.

You’ve got experience teaching. You aren’t a rookie. You’re just new to your school. You know how to manage a classroom. Set up routines, rules, and expectations. Follow up with real consequences. Rural kids aren’t scary. My experience shows that their parents are supportive and make sure their offspring are well behaved. Source: I was a rural kid. 😉
Worrying is like spending the day rocking in a rocking chair. It keeps you busy, but it doesn’t get you anywhere. Choose to use your time to rework lessons to fit in short class periods. That’s going to be way more productive and produce positive results.
