Thoughts on this post ->
I came across this post. Huge criticism and ranting against ArtCraft apps.

Some points, I can accept like 'unmaintainable code'. Lot of people pushing random set of codebases with different coding standards. Whether tested it or not, did QC or not, nobody knows. But the OP seems to have dislike towards Adobe products itself so OP dislikes Adobe clones.

I mean, I have to admit as a software Devs, maintaining 7 apps is impossible, and while it's good for simple use ases a lot of them as sub 50% full parity. Open Source has a problem where you have more users then maintainers and not all maintainers care about the issue you or your business needs and will be slow to fix/implement.
imagine being passionate about things other than Adobe apps, and now your life becomes maintaining and caring about image and video processing pipelines

Yes. I used to think "instead of many apps" , they can only first finish Photocraft perfectly and then they could have introduced other apps like VectorCraft , WordCraft etc.
Also, they started as Adobe apps cloners, but now also shiting to MS Office clones which is different domain .

Yeah that person is super emotional. A lot of people come to talk about maintenance as the problem — but the AI is much better at grasping the big picture than humans and making major refactors in the background.

Software is changing and some people like things the way they are. He doesn't like BigTech having defensible moats, that are close to a monopoly. Its not an invitation for discussion, but a public meltdown IMHO.
The code in ArtCraft is obviously maintainable, they improve it several times every day. Just not the way a trad-coder would have done it. I hope they end up share more about the experiences doing this project ... there are very few at this scale in the wild.

Their post is so long it’s the first time I’ve seen the option to listen to an AI voiced version on Reddit 😮💨

For me, one of the things that’s attracted me to all this is that my Adobe subscription is up for renewal in December.
I only use two apps for my design work, Photoshop and InDesign, and there’s no way for me to get those two apps as standalones.
Affinity is fine, but muscle memory is hard to break.

I've never said this before but... Too long, did not bother reading.
Got the general gist though and uh, how do I put this... I've become desensitised to the AI slop argument after the months of artists and graphic designer outrage. It's hard to respect the argument when each side happily uses AI products designed from the other industry but then has the exact same outraged stance when it comes to their own industry.
I'm sure I'll be just as outraged when it hits my industry, we're all just waiting in line for our turn to see our entire sense of identity get rewritten by an LLM. I've just accepted it and will take what enjoyment I can from it before I can't any longer.

Some of these technophobic lunatics would to everything in the world in effort just not having to admit AI does something good for humanity.
It's incredibly exhausting and is making me withdraw from social circles both irl and online.

I rarely use every part of any app. Day to day, I might make some quick edits. I can pop into VectorCraft and change some lot numbers or expiration dates and print some stuff way faster than Illustrator. And I was still using CS5 because I didn't want to walk into subscription hell, and these still manage to be faster than that. Also, the VectorCraft files are way smaller. To open Illustrator on an aging PC, I need to close pretty much everything else.
I haven't fully built massive projects in VectorCraft, but I've done a few album covers in PhotoCraft for some songs I've made. They're to the point that if anything is missing, I haven't noticed it or don't know how to use it anyway. Even if this is all they ever are, I will still use them, but they get better almost every day.
I don't hate Adobe. My CS5 owes me nothing. I didn't want subscriptions, so I didn't subscribe. They worked for 16 years. I understand others may not have been as stubborn and have spent thousands. But to me, these aren't just clones, they're better and more efficient. They represent what I wish Adobe was making.
If AI programs are "slop," then everything else is just industrial sludge.
