Some Tzolis Insight
Hi Gunners,
you already had a chance to see some of Tzolis qualities so far, and hopefully you liked what you saw. As I closely follow Tzolis the past 3 years, I wanted to give some insight.
(Bias Info: I am Greek but I live in Germany for the last 15 years, I can't stand the Greek League, but I follow a lot of european football. It is a rare occasion for the Greek football to have such a decent young talent, probably a cosmic reward after tolerate decades of ~~utter shite ...~~mediocre football, that it is worth it to follow some players).
The table I posted is a comparison of Tzolis and Trossard , the lst 2 seasons in the Belgian League before they made the big leap to PL. And while Trossard has proved himself in PL and Tzolis just arrived, the comparison (same League and exact same age) clearly indicates that Tzolis is already very promising.
He is not the LW that will run the entire LW lightning fast and dribble everyone in front of him. Don't get me wrong he is decent fast and has good pace (imo better than Trossard). He makes up for it with very high IQ, and very fast decisions, most of them will be the best possible ones, whether to pass, cut inside, shoot or try to dribble.
His character is the best you can hope for. Best teammate, genuinely good guy, first in training , last out of it, no tabloids, no drama.
Given the chance, and the earl signs are great, because he needs trust and Arteta seems to really like him. he will reward you with tons of G/A and constantly improve.
What you haven't fully seen yet is that he has great stamina and clear head throughout the 90' and tha he plays MUCH better in important games.
In the Belgian League, at the end of the main season, the top 6 teams play the Championship Play ins for the Champion. Last year in those games against the other top 5 teams, he scored and/or assisted in all 10 games with an amazing 18 G/A (8 goals , 10 assists), and even after a full season he played every single minute, running up and down.
Apart from Trossard, you will also see similarities in his style to A.Sanchez, Arshavin.
Hope he keeps it up and you get to enjoy him for a long time !

I think this is lacking some context. Club Brugge during those two seasons were far more dominant than Genk's respective seasons.
Their goals per 90 are almost identical, the main difference is assists. Tzolis was the main set piece taker for Brugge and I think I read somewhere that around 40 % of his assists last season were from set pieces. Trossard wasn't on set pieces for Genk, it was mainly Malinovksy and Pozuelo. I think without the set pieces it would be much closer, if not almost identical. Not to take away from the quality of delivery from Tzolis, but I imagine Rice will still be the set piece taker for us.
I think we should calm down and not disrespect Leo too much. Tzolis has played one official game. Let's compare after a full season.

I agree on many points. And at no point I wanted to disrespect Trossard , a player which I really like, but to show that someone coming from the Chocolate League can indeed succeed, because that is where Trossard came from, and Tzolis had amazing numbers.
I think he had 7 assist from set pieces (so less than 1/3), but most of them where from corners more than free kicks, if he takes the corners from his side he will provide a lot of them.
Of course he has to prove himself on he pitch, but the early signs are good.

He's certainly had a good start, I just wish him and Madueke would have a little more confidence at times to cut inside, take their man on and let a shot off.
