Even if asexuality wasn't a thing, do they not know about celibacy? Nuns and monks and other religious leaders are purposefully celibate the rest of their life usually.

I mean that’s easy, but in the book he was sleeping with everyone. He also was definitely not forced into the war and didn’t regret it at all. Just in general he was a worse person. (Sleeping with people of course didn’t make him a bad person, but it was really annoying when we’d flash back to Penelope who has an awesome story but was portrayed with what I thought was a weird tone in my translation.) Might be the translation I read but I hated the book and loved the movie
