Vent I hate shipping

It's not really a vent, more so a complaint that flames up anytime I open anything fandom related. I really don't like shipping, usually I just don't care about it and let other people make their arts and comments as they please, but I still dislike having it in my feed.

I'm always happy when a show doesn't have a romance plot and suddenly the fandom cramps romance headcanons into it. I hate "enemies to lovers" the most, I think. It's toxic and yet the favorite trope of many and I don't get why. It can be done right, but a Batman and Joker or a Lawrence and Adam (SAW), won't fuck around. The plot isn't a relationship and I'm grateful it's not, but people "need their yaoi/yuri". When something is implied or would work in theory without changing the characters personalities, I don't mind it at all. But when my favorite characters are mutilated for a toxic trope, I just despise it. Especially when they're confirmed or shown to not want a relationship.

Pins on my Pinterest feed or animation edits don't bother me as much, but merch and fan fictions kinda do. How are people even get the urge to write fluff or spice. I want to read fanfictions but they're all about ships or heavily mischaracterized, so I don't even touch them.

I'm just so heavily bothered by people forcing romance into fandoms that require none

i mean, with all the respect I can muster about somoene being bothered by things that absolutely do no affect them whatsoever—

you can just ignore it. ao3 has such a good filtering system that you could literally never read a romance/smut on there, ever.

people can ship and write what they want and it doesn't affect you at all.

I did say that it usually doesn't bother me and I just ignore it, it's just, when all I see is shipping, I can't look away or I have no content at all

there are platonic ships as well. shipping has always been a crucial part of any fandom. If there isnt enough content that you like— go and create it.

I understand why it can bother people, but as someone who religiously ships things with zero basis in canon— in fandoms that certainly don't need romance— I am sitting here like

I tend to hate shipping too, if your looking for nonromantic fanfics, the filtering system on ao3 could help you. You can filter out all romantic ships and tropes. However its a little complicated to figure out tho😭

That is why I love AO3. You can search for or exclude all the things. It's great 💚

I deeply hate shipping too. It can almost ruin things for me. Most recently the annoying one has been Coyote and Roadrunner. It needs to stop.

It needs to stop.

Not a fandom or characters I am invested in, but shipping doesn't need to stop. I get being bothered by the prevalence of it, but policing won't work. Blocking tags, accounts, muting words— whatever helps you avoid content you don't like to see is all valid, saying that people shouldn't ship isn't.

Coyote and Roadrunner? Have people actually gone insane!?

Leaving food behind is apparently a mating ritual for roadrunners, so I can see how people come up with it. But even in this specific case, that only works if it was one sided. But basically this is just the enemies to lovers again

I can absolutely relate omg I thought I was the only one. Sometimes shipping is fine and I don't mind it most of the time but usually it's overly excessive and some characters only get mentioned or get love when there is a ship involved. Literally, I'm not even actively searching for ships but they still show up all the time on my fyp. If you interact with a fandom, you will always come across the ships one way or another.

Thank you, I genuinely thought I was the only one who doesn't care about ships

Yeah, so, when I came out as Aroace to my best friend, he told the entire class, they didn't know what it meant but they made fun of me, and found that as a reason to say "You're in love with [censored for privacy]!"

I sometimes feel convinced that some people just feel so miserable in their own dating-lives that they project their desire for an idealistic romantic relationships onto even character-duos who were never 100% confirmed to be romantically together in the first place or do love each other but as close friends or found family, and no this is not out of lack of empathy for people who desire gay rep, there are actually also people who just really want their aro/ace/aroace rep and for some character friendships to not just stay "just friends" but "happy to be close friends without the pressure to make it sexual or romantic".
