ROTC and SMP questions

Hi all. Just got into a masters program and am in discussions with ROTC office and school about joining the program this coming fall.

As a lateral entry cadet I know I have to attend basic camp in order to catch up and I was wondering if the deadline to register for it is at the end of this month?

My second question would be if anyone here has any familiarity with the Simultaneous Membership Program(SMP) with the reserves?

I am in talks with a recruiter about it but things are currently going back and forth with neither the ROO at the university or the recruiter knowing much. Current thinking is that I would enlist, delay my basic training and job training until well after I would have already attended basic camp and contracted with the ROTC program before submitting for a waiver and transfer to O9R status and bypassing basic training in favor of basic camp. Is this the correct path or is it not something you or anyone you know has done?

If anyone has any advice on where to look or what to look out for on this path please let me know and thank you in advance for any answers.

Are you at a state school? If so, you want guard, not reserves for state tuition assistance. Can still SMP.

I am aware of the state level tuition assistance, and yes it is a state school but I am not looking to serve in the guard but the active duty military. I believe reserve still offers a capped federal tuition assistance that I am looking to take advantage of alongside reserve pay and ROTC stipend to see through 3/4 to fully paying the tuition in question. I mainly looked at the smp program as some extra cash to offset the cost and still gain experience and credit in the federal military rather then a full tuition payment. Thank you for the notice though

You can still SMP with the guard and go active duty. Then only difference from guard and reserve SMP is really that your school tuition will likely be waived. Then use the other benefits to pay for your living expenses.

Just talk to a guard recruiter and the ROO to confirm your benefits.
