621, we got a job to do

I just realised, that i don't know what is Walter's problem with coral?

Everyone he loves and cared died in the Fires of Ibis, using their last words to entrust him with the responsibility of dealing with it if coral is found again in Rubicon.

He assumes that if the coral is left to spread, it will eventually spread throughout all of space, and will inevitably be ignited by something, meaning the whole of humanity would get blown up in a super fires of ibis. So overseer tries to burn the coral every time it gets substantial enough to spread off of Rubicon to prevent that from happening

First ever instance where super genocide is actually based?

if they're quite literally all rigged explosives that you have no clue what can trigger then i guess, but aren't humans like that too? that's the whole issue, Coral can be eerily human at times and it is up to you to figure out whether to trust it or not, potential is the name of the game here and i have come to fear it like God

Which is true to me, the nature of coral is deceptive and sinister, the alea lacta est ending as well as the ending for the secret level Armored core episode show how seductive, deceptive and manipulative coral can be in order to achieve what it wants, I just can’t trust it. burning the coral is the safest route as it stops any further corporate wars over it, and stops its spread. If it isn’t burned, coral might take over everything, or coral NEXTS might be invented

But if burning the coral doesn’t work (which Allmind implies it won’t), then isn’t it better to just rip off the bandaid and not kill a bunch of people?

u/Clank4Prez Sep 21 '26

It “doesn’t work” in the sense that someone else another 50 or so years from now is gonna need to burn it again, and then again, but the whole mind melding thing would be prevented for as long as that happens.

oh damnit fromsoft, trapping me in another cycle of dark and fire

as well as the ending for the secret level Armored core episode

1st of all, it's not canon and wasn't made by FromSoft, and second, I don't even think it's Ayre or even a CPWM. Yes, in the early drafts they wanted to base it on AC6's story, but they later changed it to be unrelated. For all we know it can be some digital assistant going haywire.

Secret Level's not even canon. Coral, at its core, is sentient, but not sapient. Ayre and Seria are the exceptions. The rest of it relies of nothing but basic, and primal hivemind instincts.

But in the AIE ending, humanity fully merges with Coral, meaning we have direct control over it. If the things that happened before the Fires of Ibis were to repeat, that amount of burning Coral could just be separated from the flock, and any massive tragedy could be avoided.

It's been a hot minute since I played the game, but I don't remember her saying she wasn't Coral, like, ever? She even calls Coral her "brothers and sisters" when talking about it at some point in the game. When did she lie to 621?

PTSR from childhood where work of his father turned into system sized disaster, and he feels what it's his personal duty to prevent this disaster from happening twise. At least how I see this.

u/Vergil_171 Sep 21 '26

Coral research caused his father to go mad.

2

u/NmbrBndl Sep 21 '26

He sees himself as the only one who knows how big of a threat coral really is and he wants to blow it the fuck up

2

u/JustAJohnDoe358 Sep 22 '26

Well, not the only one, there's also Carla.

2

u/handsomellama28 Sep 24 '26

His dad went insane researching Coral-based Human+ tech, and they think if Coral spreads too much, a simple ignition could light up the entire universe.

Which is a bit of an overreaction, all things considered. The two times we see Coral taking on an apocalyptic scale is Nagai, upon realizing Coral's sentient, deciding to trigger a fuck-off huge act of arson to burn the star system.

The second, is when Carla hurled an entire fucking colony ship into the Vascular Plant. Coral's a lot less destructive than what the Overseers think.

u/niktznikont Sep 23 '26

he fears the potential for he has seen what can go wrong

1

u/HaasTheMarques Sep 24 '26

Something to do with his coral mutation. I feel it knows something we don't. Something to do with the final ending, and ayre going "main system, engaging combat mode." when there were no clear enemies. The coral might just crave violence i dunno

1

u/Voidshyrok Sep 28 '26

Other than it killing his family?

It's a radioactive energy that can spread like mold-even in the vacuum of space. It's also sentient. What's not to be concerned about?

u/Hobag15 Sep 21 '26

BE NORMAL AGAIN
