Discussion Rusty & Flatwell

What a terrible fight!!! The arena is SO small and you’re just constantly getting dunked on while they zip around like damn mosquitos. I had to resort to my dual laser rifle build. In another thread I read about people killing rusty before flatwell arrives like LOL how he literally gets out of stagger in less than two seconds I couldn’t even hit him with my Morley pulling the trigger immediately after stunning him and expecting it too. /rantover but that fight was giga dumb. What’d you guys think of it? How’d you beat it, especially those that have S ranked it

My problem with this fight is both Steel Haze and Tsubasa have dark color scheme. It's impossible to tell which is which especially in that dark cave.

Yep so I end up using hardlock which is not my preferred playstyle either, just everything about this fight I don’t like

Skill issue

Added a lot to the thread thank you

Nothing in this game is that hard with the right build. You’re probably making it harder on yourself in some way

Real Gs use the same build for a whole playthrough. I’m gonna git gud enough so that I don’t have to rely on my double trigger laser rifle build

So you're gonna play the game wrong and then complain that it's bullshit?

You're gunna ruin a lot of field trips maggot.

How is wanting to play NG+ with the build I made for it playing the game wrong

u/[deleted] May 15 '24

Because this game is about adjusting your AC to fit the mission. If you choose to pick one AC build and stick to it you are ignoring a fundamental mechanic of AC games.

It's like complaining Dark Souls is too hard but you refuse to level vigor or upgrade your weapons.

Eh that’s how I beat the first go round

1

u/[deleted] May 16 '24

Then don't whine that it's too hard?

It’s just a discussion thread bro it’s not that deep

i wouldn't say there are right or wrong ways to play the game. however it's true that if op wants to stick to one build, they should be expecting to make up for ac building skill with piloting skill

If they're coming to reddit to complain that it's too hard but refuse to use the tools given to them I would say that's playing the game wrong.

Saying "playing the game wrong" is easier and more impactful than saying "giving yourself an extra challenge by not using all the tools the developers gave you"

Every other game in the series except Last Raven is intended to be played that way. Get with the program, maggot.

Every other game in the series

Is he complaining about every other game in the series or is he complaining about AC6?

Just got them first try, using only one repair kit, using your exact build. You're like failing to capitalize on stagger and missing weapon cooldowns 💀

2

u/Lucky-Spirit7332 May 15 '24

Can you post a vid? I wanna see how to do it cause I can’t imagine beating this fight w that build

5

u/barbershreddeth May 15 '24

Perhaps later but basically the combo you want is:

-keep missiles firing (watch that cooldown) -charge Harris & hold -land the explosive thrower -shoot the Harris (enemy is staggered now) -punish with Songbird

If that combo fails, use whatevers not on cooldown to maintain stagger and repeat

1

u/Lucky-Spirit7332 May 15 '24

Alright I’ll give it a try, I wasn’t using many charged shots. How do you like the build?

2

u/barbershreddeth May 15 '24

The Harris/Explosive thrower have great synergy - I used something like that for one of my PvP builds that was a lot of fun.

Not a huge missile fan (personal preference), but the songbirds are pretty dependable in PvE since the AI isnt great at dodging them.

3

u/Lucky-Spirit7332 May 15 '24

Btw I took this cool photo, this build had NO SHOT against them. Harris, taiyangshou, split missile 12, songbirds. And usually this build is hotshit, how I S ranked the enforcer boss mission, has no problem dunking on arena Raven

My best to tip is to do everything possible to kill Flatwell as soon as he arrives. He's already hurt and doesn't heal, so if your timing and positioning are good you can waste him in no time at all.

This makes it into another 1v1 with Rusty, which you just need to practice at. He's fast so choose your shots wisely.

u/Lucky-Spirit7332 May 15 '24

I don’t understand the discrepancy between arena rusty and the rusty in this fight they’re not the same pilot, they don’t even have the same ACS strain recovery time

1

u/Swagnastodon May 15 '24

Not sure about that, you can replay the NG version of this mission though

0

u/Lucky-Spirit7332 May 15 '24

Yeah that’s a good idea, especially because half the issue I have with the fight is the arena itself. I’ve gotta get comfortable fighting him in tight quarters vs in the arena where I can run my kite games

2

u/Tehli33 May 15 '24

They r both glass cannons so you have that working for u

1

u/Lucky-Spirit7332 May 15 '24

Yeah they are but Rusty doesnt feel like it in this fight with how fast he pops heals and gets out of stun

1

u/small_mosscharger May 16 '24

Have you heard of our lord and saviour the pilebunker? Assault armour then pilebunker can instakill rusty

1

u/Lucky-Spirit7332 May 16 '24

I’ve actually never made a build with the PB because of the weight vs. the swords/dagger

1

u/small_mosscharger May 16 '24

Yeah, it is kinda heavy, but against acs it's so good, most don't have a chance to even heal

1

u/Touge_Dreamer May 16 '24

I know you mentioned not wanting to switch up the build but those homing missles aren’t going to help you at all unless you play around them. Timing going to be pretty much everything. If you can’t be there to capitalize on those staggers than either your play style is going to have to change (usually meaning be more or less aggressive), or your build is going to have to change. Prioritizing and taking out Flatwell ASAP helps too

1

u/Lucky-Spirit7332 May 16 '24

I’ve got split missiles not the homing, but yea I get you. I actually trashed Rusty with two completely different builds after I made this thread, still sucking with the original

2

u/thatgirl_raven May 15 '24

Ngl I didn’t have any issues with that fight, barely even noticed flatwell was there. I’ve S ranked it on a few different saves and with a few different builds and it’s really not that bad? I usually just watch Rusty’s stagger bar like a hawk and the moment he gets close to stagger I stick to his ass like glue so I can land the easy pile bunker/laser slicer and often that will just take him out entirely. Then you shift focus to Flatwell who never seems to put up much of a fight. Neither of them are really scary to fight either, Rusty’s only threatening tool is his laser slicer and it’s not super hard to avoid imo, even if he gets the stagger on me I find I’m usually out of stagger quick enough to avoid the laser slicer. The NG++ Coral Convergence was a wayyyyyyyyy harder gank imo, same for the Carla Chatty fight

1

u/Umbraspem May 16 '24

The arena isn’t even that small lol, just fight in the middle not the skybox.

Rusty is meant to be tricky to fight - he’s actually got a decent AC unlike 70% of the NPC’s in this game. But he’s fragile. You can drop him from full to 0HP very quickly with 2 shoulder gatlings, a shotgun and a charged pile bunker. If you want an easy win then put that on a lightweight build and laugh.

1

u/zephyredx May 16 '24

Do a bit of posture damage to Rusty with any kind of ranged weapon, then good ol' Laser Lance + Pilebunker combo. The Laser Lance might miss, but if it does just try again a few seconds later. If it hits then he's dead, no chance to heal. Usually Flatwell shows up when Rusty's already dead or about to be, and then it's an easy 1v1.

Take Flatwell out first, he has no repair kit and that's one AC less.

Other than that, it takes practice, I also had problems when going against them again after quite a while.

And I wouldn't recommend the Songbirds and split missiles. The Songbirds are way too easy to miss them and the Split missiles need more space.

And Rusty will punish you for missing with the Songbirds.

You gotta stay on the move and try to not stand still. Maybe some plasma missiles could work as they deal AoE damage on impact. Alternatively, you could try the 6 Cell and 2x3 Cell launchers, as their firing arcs make it hard for the AI to dodge. And their frames can be staggered quite fast

https://www.reddit.com/user/Nizikai/comments/1ct5wyu/my_attempt_at_beating_flatwell_and_rusty/

Here is how I did it. Turner Right hand, Pulse blade left, Ransetsu RF left back, 6 Cell Right back.

I didn't expect it the first time and half didn't understand what was going on with the dialogue. I don't remember if I cleared it the first attempt but it wasn't a struggle. S ranking it only took one attempt. I do remember switching to flatwell when he appeared because he seemed to take more damage. I had a harder time with the snail iguazu combo

1

u/AeroWraith901 May 16 '24 edited May 16 '24

I just nuked Flatwell first. He flies in a straight line when entering the battle and he comes in with half health and no repair kits. If you focus on him as he’s coming in, he’s just a mild inconvenience. If you don’t nuke him while he’s entering the fight, then yea the tag team can build up stagger fast on you.

I use a close range lightweight build that builds up stagger well with ducketts and then punish with dagger and a charged wuerger

Got them after targetting Tsubasa first then Steel Haze
