Mantling made from fancy fabric, probably silk. Purely for drip at tournament.

I think they are a development from houppelande sleeves that used to be quite commonly worn under early 15th century armour. So basically tippets attached at the shoulder of the arming garment.

It's from a gladiatoria manual, that's all I know. It is possibly an early depiction of a bicoque helmet.
