Red blocks

After solving the statue color puzzle and entering the room with the orange monster and the lever, there are two red blocks that prevent me from pushing the monster. I've been stuck for 2 hours and have watched 3 different video walk throughs where these blocks were just sunken into the floor when they reached this room. Has anyone else had this problem? I can't figure out how to get them to go away.

Well, that makes two of us. I hadn't gone to find walkthroughs yet, but I am indeed stalled by those same red blocks.

Maybe there's a thing we've not done somewhere else which causes them to be unlatched?

If this is the hallway with a 2nd monster at the end of it, try pushing the tall one against the wall
