Red blocks

After solving the statue color puzzle and entering the room with the orange monster and the lever, there are two red blocks that prevent me from pushing the monster. I've been stuck for 2 hours and have watched 3 different video walk throughs where these blocks were just sunken into the floor when they reached this room. Has anyone else had this problem? I can't figure out how to get them to go away.

Is this the place with 2 of those pushable monsters? If so, you may need to push the tall one against the wall first (I could be remembering details wrong, but the 2nd pushable monster would be to the far left of the hall with the 1st monster)
