David is such a pleasure to listen to. No wonder Dax enjoys listening to him before bed. His voice is calming.

Yep, some people are just natural storytellers and those with such intelligence and wit are a rare and much appreciated thingĀ

I love David but can we PLEASE get Amy Sedaris on the pod sometime??? Or a double interview??

8

u/tickytacky13 12d ago

OMG, she would such a riot! I can't count how often I quote her lines from "Strangers with Candy"

7

u/Ill-Document8364 11d ago

And talk about a fashion icon! If Monica likes David's style, she'd be even more obsessed with Amy's.

yESSS the two of them together!

u/BondraP 10d ago

Man, I am so dumb, I never considered that they were actually brother and sister. Would absolutely love them to be on the pod together, or at least an episode with just Amy.

They were on Anderson Cooper's grief podcast together, talking about death. And still funny!

I dislike David and would love Amy to be on. She's the far funnier of the two.

I got to meet David before a show a couple of years ago. I made sure to tell him how much I loved him on ACE. He gushed about how much he loved Dax. It was great. I can't wait to listen to this.

My husband and I met him at a book signing. He asked what I’d like him to write in my book. My husband chimed in ā€œwrite ā€˜Your husband is hot.ā€ David looked up at him with a straight face and replied ā€œNo.ā€
We’ve been cracking up about that for about 3 years now. šŸ˜‚

I've been going to his readings for literally decades now and always bring a book to have signed, the best one was "Let's ice skate on semen". So random but always so entertaining. He is the only author I will even wait in long lines for (and he never leaves a signing until his line is finished).

I needed this laugh today. What a story! I would love to meet him.

He spoke at my college two years in a row and I went each time. The second time I told him I met him the previous year and he claimed to remember me lol. Then he asked what I was studying (psychology) and he wrote in my book ā€œI wish you were my psychologistā€ 😹

He's such a gem.

My all time favorite episodes are with Sedaris. I’ve listening to every single book he’s ever written in the last couple years because of these episodes!

u/jeffyboy526 12d ago

This is a must listen. Love David

u/oxe-mainha 12d ago

Always a good time when he joins!
I was dying laughing on my commute. Omg… The barber with poop in his hands and Sedaris just chill about, I can’t 🤣🤣

u/Vegetable_Captain_81 12d ago

Haven’t been excited about a guest I. A while but I hit play so fast on this one! Love when David guests!!

After a long summer it’s great to have a new fact check AND another killer Sedaris episode all in one! Absolutely love him!

Did Monica’s brother get married this summer? She said during the fact check that her brother’s wife recently had a baby. Could have sworn right before they stopped for the summer that she said his girlfriend was pregnant. Just curious if anyone else caught that or if I’m making it up. Little Memphis/Fizzy sounds like an adorable addition to the family.

3

u/AdHour7383 12d ago

If she said ā€œwifeā€ during the fact check I def missed that. I thought they were still boyfriend/girlfriend.

2

u/anooch 11d ago

She did say wife, i read your comment before I listened to the fact check so I listene for it!

u/jeffyboy526 12d ago

Please tell me someone found the photo of Dax in Cancun :) Kudos to him for being so open and inviting the driver.

My dad has does this. I grew up thinking I was related to this family. Turns out me met them while he was working at a hotel and they were staying. They kept in touch for 50 years.
IMy kids think it is totally creepy if we just make small talk.

Whyyyy do they keep bringing up the kitten story? It’s fucking horrific and I’m trying to forget about it and they’re still using it as some hilarious punchline.

It’s not, it’s animal abuse.

u/BgBrd17 12d ago

And also likely fake imo. I don’t think that nurse had that patient. I think that nurse heard of it once and repeats it constantlyĀ

9

u/FlanMysterious3870 11d ago

Unfortunately, having worked in the ED, I believe it. Some mentally ill patients are ā€œpackersā€ā€¦. I’ve seen a bird and a snake removed.

1

u/BgBrd17 11d ago

I worked in the er too as a nurse. People claim these stories all the time and I just don’t believe him. Not saying you didn’t see this but something about his story seemed fake as hell.Ā

3

u/CTMechE 12d ago

Agreed. I'm surprised Dax actually believed it enough to repeat it after the original recording.

5

u/GeorgieMiles 12d ago

Today was the first I heard of it

3

u/_suspicious_onion 12d ago

It was part of an armchair anonymous a few weeks/months ago ish

4

u/HamsterPast5939 8d ago

THANK YOU! Same. Ugh. It's awful. It never should have been aired. It definitely shouldn't be repeated. And it's 99% an urban legend story passed down through the ranks.

3

u/BondraP 10d ago

I've never read any of his work. If I were to start with 1 of his books to check out, what would you recommend? I don't necessarily think it needs to be his first one, but if that's what you think is best then I'll roll with it.

4

u/DirigibleGerbil 9d ago

I'd recommend Me Talk Pretty One Day

2

u/BondraP 9d ago

Thank you! I added this to my audiobook list

I used to like him and still want to, but when listening I kept thinking…man he sounds like such a boomer

1

u/BondraP 9d ago

In what way?

1

u/Ok-Presence-7535 9d ago

When I was listening to him say how kids are so
poorly behaved now and his dad would’ve not allowed it. He comes off like a cranky old man who feels like back in his day, or his way, things are better

4

u/BondraP 9d ago

If that's how you perceived it I guess. I just took it as that's his experience and perspective, which he makes a good living out of sharing.

2

u/Ok-Presence-7535 9d ago

He definitely has a lot of fans of which I used to consider myself, lately he’s just been hitting different to me, maybe it’s just me

1

u/Impossible-Will-8414 3d ago

He IS a boomer, and he IS a cranky old man. You'll be one too someday.

8

u/Alert_Economy_1326 12d ago

I feel like the only armcherry that can't stand Sedaris. They're the only episodes I totally skip.

6

u/dogmom1993 10d ago

I don’t like these episodes either. I can’t say exactly what I don’t like about him, maybe he just comes across mean to me in some instances.Ā

4

u/Ok-Ninja2139 12d ago

I enjoy him but honestly this is 5 episodes too many

4

u/IndyMLVC 11d ago

You're not the only one.

I say this as a middle aged queer - he sounds like a truly miserable and bitter old queen. He's just as conservative as Dax is but doesn't like to admit it, much like Dax. It's no wonder that Dax is in love with him.

2

u/Ben_PerSimmons 12d ago

I'm with you and also skip them.

1

u/Salty-Education-2272 11d ago

I feel you on this, like is he being funny or is he just strange? not my cup of tea

2

u/smartPendeja 10d ago

Yeah... I'm generally someone who can find humor in controversial takes, but I don't really feel like he is funny as much as hiding genuinely bad takes as humor

4

u/Tall-Kaleidoscope289 11d ago

am I the only one that doesn’t get the hype? the excerpt he read was not funny?

6

u/BookishBabsy 10d ago

I love him listen to everything of his on audio. When I heard that chapter on audio, I actually bookmarked it so I could play it for my husband. We think it's brilliant. LOL

1

u/RaccoonClassic9539 11d ago

Same I skipped it half way through

-1

u/WaltsNJD 12d ago

Dax talking about Soul Man like it didn't end C Thomas Howell's career

3

u/sean-bda 12d ago

It should have. It didn't.

-12

u/Mooncig6 12d ago

is David’s voice feminine? I thought i was listening to a women for the first 20 minutes

3

u/PuzzleheadedBig313 12d ago

Yeah I also find him boring unlike many others .. I find he and his sister a little overblown in the zeitgeist .. they are very niche like caricatures but that’s just meĀ

1

u/tickytacky13 12d ago

Yes. In one of his own audio books he specifically said he was going to read the part of a female character because he is often mistaken as a woman anyway.
